Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. just announced that they have inducted White House correspondent and CNN political analyst April Ryan as an honorary member.
The sorority made the announcement to the public through their social media channels on Thursday during their 54rd National Convention in New Orleans.
Ryan has served as a White House correspondent since 1997 and is the Washington, D.C., bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks. She is one of only three African Americans to serve on the board of the White House Correspondents Association in its over 100-year history.
In her time as a White House correspondent, Ryan has covered four presidential administrations and conducted one-on-one interviews with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, George W. Bush, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Thabo Mbeki, and John Kerry, among others.
In 2017, she joined CNN as a political analyst and has been seen on shows including Outfront with Erin Burnett, CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, Hardball with Chris Matthews, The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Real Time with Bill Maher.
In 2015, she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award (Outstanding Literary Work – Debut Author) for her first book. That same year she was named Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists.
Ryan took to social media with a set of clips from the Delta National Convention where she did a keynote speech.
“Overwhelmed by all the mentions, likes, and all the love on social media today and honored to be a keynote at the 54th Annual National Delta Sigma Theta Convention! Love my sorors and the entire Divine 9 family! OO-OOP!” she captioned the video.
She also posted a photo of herself with her new soror Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin.
Living her best life, she also took a video enjoying the convention with her new sorority sisters.
Eleanor Traylor, Sherrilyn Ifill and Andra Day were also inducted as honorary members of Delta Sigma Theta alongside Ryan.
“THERE’S STRENGTH AND POWER IN SISTERHOOD!” she captioned a photo standing next to the other honorary members who were inducted at the 54rd National Convention.
