Sorors of Zeta Phi Beta are making an impact and making the world a better place both in the US and Africa.
Ty Abilla, a member of the sorority, has created Hustle Hard Global an organization that uses basketball as a tool to improve the well being of underprivileged youth in Kenya by providing them with high-quality camps, tournaments and scholarships.
According to the organization, their goal is “to ensure that underprivileged you in East Africa are equipped with the necessary tools to be successful leaders of Africa on and off the court.”
So far, the program has served 500 student-athletes throughout their camps and tournaments, provided 50 of them with dental hygiene products and supported 6 of them through their scholarship program.
They have secured partnerships with the Jr. NBA, Gatorade, the Washington Mystics and the Far East Basketball Association.
Ty Abilla, the President and Co-Founder of the organization is a Fall 2017 initiate of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta in Washington, DC.
“As a member of Zeta Phi Beta, I pride myself in upholding the principles of the organization,” she told Watch The Yard in an interview. “One of the principles that I hold dear to my heart is service. Through my nonprofit organization, Hustle Hard Global, I have been fortunate enough to gain a better understanding of my purpose while serving underprivileged youth in Kenya through basketball and scholarship. With Zeta Phi Beta being the first to charter a chapter in Africa, it is important that I continue to blaze new paths in the country I call home, Kenya.”

We at Watch The Yard would like to commend Ty Abilla for her work on carrying out her sorority’s mission of service abroad, using sports and fun. We need more of this in today’s world.
