Gervonta βTankβ Davisβ reign at the top of the lightweight division has come to an abrupt halt.
The World Boxing Association (WBA) has officially stripped Davis of his lightweight championship, reclassifying the undefeated boxing star as βChampion in Recessβ following the issuance of an arrest warrant tied to an alleged domestic violence incident in South Florida.
According to reports, the decision was made after Miami Gardens authorities issued a warrant for Davisβ arrest in connection with allegations made by a former girlfriend. The warrant reportedly includes battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping charges stemming from an alleged incident at a Miami-area venue in October 2025.
With Davis no longer recognized as the active champion, the WBA has vacated the lightweight title, opening the door for the organization to potentially order a bout between top contenders to crown a new champion as the case unfolds.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed efforts are ongoing to locate Davis. As of now, Tank has not publicly addressed the warrant or the accusations, and his legal team has yet to release a formal statement.
The fallout has already begun impacting Davisβ career. A high-profile exhibition fight scheduled for later this year was reportedly canceled following the emergence of the allegations and the ongoing criminal investigation.
Davis, widely considered one of boxingβs most electrifying and dominant fighters, entered this situation with an undefeated professional record and multiple world titles across weight classes. Now, his immediate future inside the ring is uncertain as legal questions loom large.
The WBA has stated that further decisions regarding the lightweight division will be made as the situation develops.
