Our hearts are heavy with the devastating news: four young lives have been tragically cut short, and the innocent victims have now been identified. Among them are Maya Lupian, just 8 years old; Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero, also 8; Amari Peterson, 14; and Susano Archuleta, 21. It’s a profound loss that echoes through our communities.
Little Maya, a bright 3rd grader, truly lit up every room. Her GoFundMe page shared how she excelled in school and extracurriculars, pouring her energy into dance, singing, drawing, and even earning a purple belt in karate. She was described as “the light in everyone’s life, the sweetest soul.” Journey Rose was another beautiful spirit, remembered for always offering a helping hand. A smart girl who loved trivia and math games, Journey dreamed of becoming a cheerleader, continuing gymnastics, and following her sister’s footsteps to become a doctor – she simply wanted to help people. Her promising life was just beginning. Then there’s Amari Peterson, a young man who had so much life ahead of him.
According to his GoFundMe, Amari was a thriving young athlete with dreams of college, excelling in both football and basketball. The words on his page hit hard, reminding us of the cruel randomness of violence:
“The only mistake this sweet boy made was being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” it read. “He was simply being a kid at a kids’ party.”
This chilling detail underscores the senseless impact on our youth.
Susano Archuleta, the oldest of the victims at 21, was cherished by his friends, family, and the entire community. Each life taken represents a profound loss, a future stolen too soon.
To ensure justice is served, the FBI and San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office are offering a substantial $50,000 reward for any information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for this horrific crime. Vice Mayor Jason Lee has also been a vocal advocate, stating his commitment to supporting public safety officers like Sheriff Patrick Withrow and Chief Stanley McFadden. He reaffirmed his full support for District Attorney Ron Freitas, emphasizing the critical need for accountability.
“Their collective leadership in this moment is critical, and I stand firmly behind their efforts to deliver justice for these families,” Lee stated in a previous press conference. This collective effort is crucial as the community seeks healing and answers.
