Amon-Ra St. Brown is out here shining as one of the NFL’s hottest wide receivers! Whether he’s leading your fantasy team to victory or you’re repping the Detroit Lions, so many fans are drawn to his energy and skill every time he hits the field. And naturally, everyone wants to know more about this phenomenal athlete’s story.
Let’s dive into the background of Amon-Ra St. Brown, his inspiring family, and just how many languages this man speaks. Talk about impressive!
Who are Amon-Ra St. Brown’s parents?
Born on October 24, 1999, in Anaheim Hills, California, Amon-Ra Julian Heru John St. Brown is the son of Miriam Brown (née Steyer) and John Brown. His mother hails from Leverkusen, Germany, and his father grew up in Compton, California – a true melting pot of cultures! They crossed paths at a fitness fair in Germany in 1989 and sealed the deal with marriage seven years later. What a beautiful story!
Amon-Ra is the baby of the family, with two older brothers, Equanimeous and Osiris. Their father, feeling his own name was “too ordinary,” wanted to give his sons names that would command attention and stand out from the crowd. And he delivered!
Did you know that Amon-Ra is named after the Egyptian sun god? And Osiris shares a name with the Egyptian god of the underworld. Equanimeous? His name is inspired by a character from a book and embodies the idea of “evenness of mind under stress.” Talk about setting intentions early!
Adding “St.” to their last name? That was all dad, who thought “St. Brown” would have that extra flair on their jerseys. Now THAT’s what we call a vision!
Equanimeous is also in the NFL. He’s been with teams like the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. Clearly, athleticism runs in the family, thanks to their father, John, a former two-time Mr. Universe and three-time Mr. World bodybuilding champion. The discipline instilled by their father clearly shines through.
“I explained that to them when they were probably like 2 years old,” John shared with ESPN. Envision this: “I would tell them to line up. I would blow a whistle, and that means toe to line, and they all had to line up from the tallest to the shortest, and they had to stand with their hand like soldiers. Hands to the side, head straight while I’m talking to them, because there’s moments in life where I need my son’s undivided attention to explain certain things in life.”
What languages does Amon-Ra speak?
Get this: Amon-Ra isn’t just a football star; he’s multilingual, too! Besides English, he’s fluent in German and French.
“I speak three different languages. My mom’s from Germany, so growing up I was learning German and English,” Amon-Ra revealed to DetroitLions.com. “And then I went to school in France for a semester, and I went to a French school out in Orange County from preschool to sixth grade, so that’s how I learned French.”
Miriam emphasized to Rivals, “It was never a question to me when I came here [America] that my children should speak different languages.” Preach, Queen!
Amon-Ra and his brothers hold dual American and German citizenship, and they make it a point to visit their mother’s home country as often as possible. Recently, the Lions’ wideout and Equanimeous even organized a football camp for kids in Cologne. Now that’s giving back to the community!
“There was a huge amount of interest, and the whole thing was a lot of fun,” Amon-Ra said. “I always really love coming back to Germany. It reminds me of when I was young.”
