Former NFL player Antonio Brown, 37, is out of a Miami jail after posting a $25,000 bond in his second-degree attempted murder case. Word is, things got real, real fast.
Antonio Brown Hit With Second-Degree Attempted Murder Charge After Allegedly Shooting Into Miami Crowd, Claims Self-Defense In Alleged Robbery
After a roughly four-and-a-half-month search, Miami-Dade PD confirmed Brown’s extradition back to the States. U.S. Marshals picked him up in Dubai, where he’d been posting videos. Brown landed in New Jersey before heading to Miami to stand trial for a shooting in Little Haiti earlier this year.
Back on May 16, Antonio Tavaris Brown (his full government name) went viral after a huge fight broke out at a boxing event hosted by Adin Ross. Gunshots popped off, and police issued an arrest warrant for Brown in June.
Brown is saying he acted in self-defense, claiming he was targeted and robbed. He told police he didn’t do anything wrong, despite reports that he admitted to “slamming” one person’s security guard.
Police Identify Victim In Antonio Brown Miami Shooting, The Two Have History
The alleged victim is Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, reportedly Brown’s former friend. He’s the same man who waved a Palestinian flag during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime show performance back in February.
Nantambu was arrested in June for resisting arrest and disturbing the peace. Brown has posted about his issues with Nantambu on X, saying:
“That guy is a fraud, liar, stalker & criminal. He was arrested in 2022 for stealing 6 figures of jewelry from me. He then showed up at my show at Rolling Loud in 2023 trying to assault me.
Then in May, he snuck into a gate at the event and came right up to me trying to steal from me and threaten my life, Media hasn’t told this story yet… instead painting a false picture of me. That night I was fighting for my life with his intentions.”
According to TMZ, Nantambu alleges that Brown snapped at him during Adin Ross’s boxing event before allegedly trying to shoot him with a handgun, grazing his neck. However, prosecutors couldn’t confirm this in court.
Brown maintains he was only protecting himself, and his attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, agrees. Eiglarsh told TMZ Sports:
“The actions he was forced to take were solely in self-defense against the alleged victim’s violent behavior. Brown was attacked that night and acted within his legal right to protect himself from an individual who had previously committed criminal acts against him. It’s a privilege to represent him, and I am determined to ensure that justice is served.”
Antonio Brown Released From Miami Jail After Posting Bond In Second-Degree Attempted Murder Case
Brown returned to Miami after being extradited from Dubai to New Jersey. Sports journalist Andy Slater confirmed Brown’s arrival with video of him exiting a jet and walking towards a vehicle.
Before Brown’s arrival, his attorney entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf to a charge of second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
After landing in Miami, Brown was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Officials took a new mugshot, and Brown appeared in bond court and was granted a $25,000 bond. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim and wear a GPS ankle monitor for house arrest.
In court, questions arose about Brown’s trip to Dubai. His attorney told Local 10 News:
“I have documents and evidence that he has an ongoing business in Dubai and he went there in May before any warrant was issued. My client was clearly over-charged. Even the judge said at worst we are talking about aggravated assault.”
Brown was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. News footage shows him hugging his attorney, grabbing some food from a food truck, telling reporters, “God is great,” and then catching an Uber.
He headed straight to Fruity Dressed Conch for a cup. Quartishia Mccollum, who works on the truck, said:
“We saw him come out and we just called him over to the truck to give him a meal. I didn’t know he would stop, but he showed love to us!”
Brown’s attorney is glad his client is out of custody after over 40 days since his initial Dubai arrest, stating:
“We are extremely grateful that he is out after over 40 days of incarceration. He is extremely eager to rejoin his family who he loves dearly.”
