BET Pulls the Plug on ‘106 & Sports’ After One Season

BET has canceled 106 & Sports, the sports-driven spinoff of the iconic countdown series 106 & Park. The show, hosted by former NFL MVP Cam Newton and sports analyst Ashley Nicole Moss, wrapped after just one eight-episode season.

The hour-long talk show debuted on October 15, 2025, and was filmed at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Despite a high-profile rollout and a visually ambitious set design, the network confirmed it will not move forward with additional seasons. BET stated that while production has ended, the previous season will remain available across its platforms.

The concept aimed to blend sports debates with deeper conversations about Black culture — echoing the energy and cultural relevance that made 106 & Park a staple in the early 2000s. Topics ranged from HBCU athletics coverage to franchise relocations and generational shifts among pro athletes.

Behind the scenes, the show had heavyweight backing. It was produced by SpringHill Company, with executive producers including LeBron James and Maverick Carter, among others.

Production value wasn’t the issue. The Atlanta set reportedly featured massive LED displays, elevated audience seating, a central performance-style stage, and a full control room crew — a major contrast to today’s leaner, podcast-style sports media format that dominates online platforms.

The cancellation also comes during a transitional period for BET following leadership changes after Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount’s parent company. Under current president Louis Carr, the network is pivoting its programming slate, spotlighting titles like Sistas, the BET Awards, and NAACP Image Awards, along with new projects such as The Coach Vick Experience starring Michael Vick.

For many fans, the cancellation marks another reminder that reviving legacy brands in today’s fast-moving media landscape isn’t always guaranteed to stick — even with star power attached.
