Treatments that work…
A little gift from me to you: clinics that leave me glowing
SKIN: THÉRAPIE CLINIC
Not all laser machines are the same; older ones can hurt Black skin because the laser can’t tell the difference between skin and hair color. Remember those laser nightmare storytimes on TikTok? Yikes. Thérapie uses Cynosure’s Elite iQ, which works on skin up to five on the Fitzpatrick scale, the most advanced laser tech right now. I’ve been impressed with the results, and they have locations all over.
BODY: ADA OOI
Ada’s got a lot going on, including treating skin holistically. I believe in traditional Chinese medicine, and Ada uses cupping, massage, and acupuncture to help with inflammation, fluid retention, and fatigue. In a world that often ignores Black women’s pain, time with Ada is like therapy for my body and soul.
A note on skin clinics…
We talk about hair salons lacking expertise in coily hair, but what about skin clinics not knowing Black skin? Our skin is a living organ that reacts to products and treatments, and some professionals just don’t have the experience. Knowing skin beyond number three on the Fitzpatrick scale isn’t universal. So, before booking laser or dermatological treatments, check if the clinic is on the Black Skin Directory. Clinics listed there are vetted and certified as having the highest level of knowledge in treating skin of color, so you know you’re in good hands.
