Georgia Congressional Race just got real. Dr. Heavenly Kimes from Married to Medicine finished second in the Democratic primary for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District, and she’s already looking toward what’s next. The cosmetic dentist ran a spirited campaign but didn’t quite reach the finish line this time around.
Rep. Jasmine Clark took the win with more than half the vote in a crowded field of six candidates. Dr. Heavenly didn’t waste time with the congratulations though—she called Clark right away to give her props. In a video she shared on Instagram, Dr. Heavenly told her supporters that this loss isn’t the end of her story. “This is not over. We’re going to come back,” she said. “I’ve already called Jasmine Clark and congratulated the queen.” She added, “I’m sure she’ll do an amazing job. I’m so proud of her, but I’m also proud of you. We did something different; we made history.”
The energy in her thank you post was pure gratitude. Dr. Heavenly shouted out everyone who “believed in me, prayed for me, donated, volunteered, canvassed, texted, called voters, put up signs, and stood beside me.” She made sure to highlight her husband, Dr. Damon Kimes, for every sacrifice he made, and thanked her children for riding with the campaign all the way.
Dr. Heavenly entered this race back in March after shifting her political focus from a state representative run. The congressional seat opened up when Rep. David Scott passed away on April 22 at 80 years old. Now Clark will face Republican Jonathan James Chavez in the general election on November 3. Win or lose, Dr. Heavenly proved she’s got the hustle and the Georgia Congressional Race showed what’s possible when you bring your full self to the table.
