The internet is buzzing after pop culture critic and entertainer Quentin Latham, widely known as Funky Dineva, bravely shared his Stage 1 prostate cancer diagnosis. He’s making sure everyone hears his message: “early detection is key.”

On Tuesday, November 25, Funky Dineva opened up on Instagram, sharing a significant health update with his followers. In a candid video, he detailed his recent urologist visit:

“Alright guys, I just got back from the urologist and I’m sharing this for educational purposes, not for sympathy,” he began. He revealed his Stage 1 prostate cancer diagnosis, explaining that out of 12 biopsies, two were cancerous and one was suspicious. He emphasized how early it was, caught in the “earliest of early phases” with an extremely low Gleason score. He’s awaiting genetic testing to determine if it’s a slow or fast-growing cancer.
Dineva quickly explored treatment options: radiation, experimental drugs, or robot surgery. His decision was clear: “My gut just tells me cut it out. I want it cut out.” He opted for robot surgery, with an appointment set for December 8th to finalize the removal. He candidly added, “Yes, I’m a little down about it, but I’m about to take a nap and I’ll be fine.”

In his caption, Funky Dineva reiterated the importance of “Early detection” for all men, urging them to get their bloodwork and exams done. He also asked for space to process everything, noting he needed a nap.

Just a few hours later, after initially promoting his ‘Funky Dineva Live‘ YouTube show featuring multi-platinum singer/songwriter and TV personality K. Michelle, he regretfully announced its cancellation. He shared his honesty:

“After receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis today, I don’t have it in me to sit up in y’all face and cackle about a bunch of sh*t that doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of life. I’m in my room, in the dark, under the covers. I’m depressed but I’m also fine. I’m giving myself permission to go through the process. For right now, laying quiet in the dark is where I need to be. Thanks for understanding ❤️.”
