Golden Bachelor Contestant Cut After Wedding Snub

At 75, Sandra Mason is proving that it’s never too late to take a chance on love. The former executive assistant, who appeared on ABC’s The Golden Bachelor, opened up about the surprising family moment that had people talking: her journey on the dating show happened during the same time as her daughter’s wedding.

To hear her tell it, this was not some dramatic case of a mother choosing reality TV over family. Mason said her daughter and son-in-law were the ones who encouraged her to go, reminding her that while the ceremony would be brief, marriage is for the long haul. Her daughter, already secure in her own love story, wanted her mother to have the opportunity to chase one too.

That support clearly meant a lot. She described the newlyweds as wonderful people and made it clear that their blessing helped ease any guilt around the timing. When she later told Golden Bachelor lead Gerry Turner that she had missed the wedding to be there, he admitted he was flattered but also recognized how major that family event was. The moment turned sweet when they FaceTimed her daughter, giving the whole situation a little extra heart.

Although she was eliminated not long after, Mason has said she doesn’t regret showing up for the experience. What disappointed her most was simply not being able to stay longer and continue building a connection. She was realistic about her chances, noting that by the time only a handful of women remained, she understood Gerry had started forming deeper relationships.

Even so, her outlook stayed positive. Her daughters may have felt a little salty about the wedding-day overlap, but they were also proud of her for being bold enough to put herself out there. She shared that the family already has plans to celebrate the marriage together properly, with dinner, gifts, and plenty of affection to make up for lost time.

More than anything, the experience seems to have left her hopeful. Sandra Mason said the show reminded her that finding her person still feels possible, and she’s staying open to whatever comes next. For a lot of us, that kind of late-in-life confidence hits different: it’s a reminder that joy, romance, and fresh starts don’t belong to just one age group.
