The saga surrounding the Smith family just keeps getting deeper, and this time, the drama is moving from the Red Table to the courtroom. A man who claims he was a close friend of Will Smith for nearly 40 years is now suing Jada Pinkett Smith for a hefty $3 million.
The man, Bilaal Salaam, says he worked with Will on both personal and professional projects for decades. In the lawsuit, he claims that Jada Pinkett Smith confronted him at Will’s 53rd birthday party back in September 2021. According to Salaam, the whole thing went down in a private movie theater, where Jada allegedly approached him with a seven-person entourage.
Salaam’s filing states Jada became “verbally aggressive” and accused him of spreading her personal business. He claims she warned him that if he didn’t stop talking, he would “end up missing or catch a bullet.”
The situation apparently didn’t stop there. He also alleges Jada demanded he sign a nondisclosure agreement “or else,” and that one of her associates followed him to his car, still yelling threats in the parking lot.
Fast forward to March 2022, right after the infamous Oscars slap. Salaam claims the Smiths’ team reached out to him for help with “crisis management.” He says he turned them down, explaining he didn’t want to take part in anything “illegal, unethical, or morally compromising.”
According to the complaint, that refusal triggered a “retaliatory campaign” against him. Things allegedly escalated once the couple found out he was writing a “whistleblower memoir” about his decades-long relationship with them.
Now, Salaam is arguing that his reputation, livelihood, and personal peace have all been damaged because of this.
For her part, Jada Pinkett Smith has not yet publicly responded to any of these allegations.
