The BeyHive was buzzing this week after Mathew Knowles abruptly ended a live media interview when questions shifted toward his ex-wife Tina Knowles and her contributions to Destiny’s Child.
The awkward moment happened during a sit-down with PIX 11 anchor Kendis Gibson. The interview was reportedly meant to focus on an upcoming orchestra-style tribute concert honoring Destiny’s Child. But things took a turn when Gibson began giving both Mathew and Tina their “flowers” for the group’s success.
When Gibson highlighted Tina’s role in styling, imaging, and even helping shape the group’s name, Mathew questioned her contributions, asking, “What work did she put in?” After some back-and-forth — and visible hesitation when the effort was described as “joint” — Mathew stood up and said, “We’ll stop now,” before ending the interview early. Though both men laughed and shook hands, the clip quickly went viral online.
Days later, Mathew addressed the situation in an exclusive with Page Six, claiming the interview “started on a bad note.” He alleged that Gibson arrived 15 minutes late and kept steering the conversation toward Tina when the focus was supposed to be the Destiny’s Child tribute concert.
“How it starts is how it ends,” Mathew reportedly said, insisting he politely ended the conversation.
However, an unnamed source reportedly disputed his version of events, claiming Gibson was actually early and that the questions about Tina were simply part of praising both parents for their roles in the group’s legacy.
For context, Mathew managed his daughter Beyoncé for nearly 18 years, guiding her through Destiny’s Child and into her solo superstardom. The two ended their professional relationship in 2011 amid reports of financial disputes. That same year, Mathew and Tina divorced after 31 years of marriage.
While social media debates who deserves credit for building one of the biggest girl groups in history, Mama Tina appears unbothered. She’s been busy promoting her food venture, “Mama Tina’s Gumbo,” at the Houston Rodeo — posting glowing reviews from customers who swear by her Louisiana-style recipe.
One enthusiastic fan even declared, “Beyoncé wouldn’t be Beyoncé without Ms. Tina’s gumbo!”
No shade thrown. No response issued. Just gumbo and good vibes.
