Yandy Smith And Mendeecees Harris Relationship Timeline
Let’s rewind their journey for a minute. Mendeecees Harris and Yandy Smith’s story began in 2006, reportedly through an artist Yandy was managing. After Mendeecees put in the work to woo her, they started dating and welcomed their first child, son Omere Harris, on July 16, 2012. The couple solidified their bond with an engagement in 2014.
Fans watched them seemingly tie the knot on VH1’s ‘Love and Hip-Hop: New York.’ But the whispers were constant: was it a legal union or just “for TV”? Turns out, those rumors had some truth to them. It was later reported that they held off on legally marrying until 2020, reportedly due to Harris’s ongoing child support obligations from prior relationships.
Their family continued to grow. On January 16, 2015, they welcomed their daughter, Skylar Harris. Beyond their biological children, Yandy also opened her heart and home, adopting her foster child, Infinity Gilyard, who was born on March 8, 2002. Yandy formally announced Infinity’s adoption in December 2019.
It’s important to note that Mendeecees also has other children. He shares an older son, Mendeecees Harris Jr., born October 8, 2005, with ex Samantha Wallace. Additionally, he has another son, Aasim Harris, born September 7, 2011, with ex Erika DeShazo.
Their journey wasn’t without major challenges. In 2016, Mendeecees was incarcerated for drug trafficking, serving four years. During this trying period, Yandy truly showed her strength, holding things down for the family, balancing her own career, raising their children, and steadfastly supporting her partner through it all.
Mendeecees was released from prison in January 2020, marking a much-anticipated reunion with his family. However, despite the reunion, he recently admitted that by 2024, he and Yandy felt themselves drifting apart. The start of 2025 brought a flurry of cheating rumors, with both Mendeecees and Yandy facing accusations of infidelity.
Mendeecees Harris Admits He And Yandy Smith Split Over A Year Ago And Were Never ‘Legally Married’
As these details emerge, Mendeecees is now openly confirming his separation from Yandy Smith for more than a year, and that their union was never legally recognized. In his ‘Streetz Morning Takeover’ interview, he directly tackled the cheating allegations:
“Even if me and Yandy decided to breakup, it’s no one’s business besides our household’s. So, if you see me acting ‘inappropriate,’ it’s appropriate for me. Maybe not for you, because, I’m sorry you wasn’t in the groupchat when we decided that we not—I’m sorry you wasn’t in our bedroom when we had this conversation. And that’s a problem because, a lot of times, these rumors, you know, we’re so private that we sit back and we laugh at it. It doesn’t affect us the way that it affects the public. People be like, ‘Oh, y’all should be more transparent and let us know.’ We gotta figure out how to let our children know.”
Further delving into the current state of his and Yandy’s relationship, Harris candidly stated:
“We’re not together. I’ve known Yandy for like 20 years and right now, we’ve been probably split up for over a year. 20 years, is like, that person helped changed you [to become] who you are today. You know, you grow up. I matured in so many ways messing with Yandy. I wouldn’t be the man who I am today if it wasn’t for her. She made me look at family different. She’s made me look at life different. If I show you how closed off I was, I wouldn’t be even sitting here having this conversation. It’s just unfortunate that after time we just couldn’t get on the same page.”
The natural next question was about divorce. Harris’s response was simple: “Well, we were never legally married. So, I don’t know how we would get a divorce.” He also dismissed the idea that he married “for TV,” clarifying, “Nah, I ain’t do it for TV.” He elaborated that it was actually Yandy’s suggestion early on, during his legal troubles with courts and fines, to not sign the legal papers. “And I was like, ‘Alright, cool.’ I guess it kind of just stayed that way. Then, we got married again and then we still ain’t…” he shared, hinting at continued avoidance of legalizing the union.
Reflecting on their wedding ceremonies, Harris couldn’t help but see a silver lining in their unconventional arrangement. “Listen, but you gotta think about it,” he mused. “If I look back now, I see what people going through a divorce with assets and stuff like that, we don’t gotta go through none of that. It kind of worked out.”
