The Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina, marks Jordan’s fourth free healthcare facility, providing primary care services to families without insurance. This initiative reflects Jordan’s ongoing commitment to improving access to healthcare in his home state, particularly for underserved populations.
The new clinic spans 7,300 square feet, includes 12 patient rooms, and operates on weekdays. It focuses on connecting patients to essential local resources while offering comprehensive care for uninsured and underserved communities.
Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic Expands Access
Jordan’s partnership with Novant Health has already impacted thousands of patients across North Carolina. His clinics provide preventive care, behavioral health support, health screenings, and chronic illness management.
The newest Charlotte clinic follows the model of his previous facilities, ensuring care is available for patients of all ages, including those who may have never had a primary care provider. Nicholas Green, the clinic administrator, emphasized, “We’re not just going to be taking care of your physical health. We’re looking at the whole person.”
Wilmington’s First Michael Jordan Clinic
The first Wilmington Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic opened on May 7, 2024, at 1423 Greenfield Street, across from the Houston Moore neighborhood. The 7,800-square-foot space includes 12 patient rooms and offers services like health screenings, preventive care, behavioral health support, and more.
Michael Jordan’s Roots: Jordan, who moved to Wilmington from New York at age five, donated funds to create these clinics. In 2021, he gave $10 million through the Novant Health Foundation to launch two clinics in Wilmington.
Family-Centered Care: The clinics serve patients from age 6 to 106, offering a one-stop location for families. Dr. Emilia Parrott explained, “There’s one central home for people to reach us, which provides consistency and stability.”
Community Integration: Jordan’s clinics are embedded within local neighborhoods. During COVID-19, one Charlotte location transitioned to a respiratory care clinic to meet urgent community needs.
The second Wilmington location is planned for Princess Place Drive, opening in early 2025, ensuring expanded access to care.
Open to Everyone, With or Without Insurance
The clinics welcome all patients, whether they have medical insurance or not. Staff members like Alexis Mckoy emphasize that even patients who have never had a primary care provider can access care:
“You are not by yourself. Your situation is our situation. You took that first step, and that’s all that matters. You have care now. You are not alone.”
Daryl Little, a patient at the Charlotte North End location, shared how the clinic helped him with high blood pressure, diabetes, and recovery from a substance use disorder:
“I would recommend to any of my friends, any of my family, if they need any type of help, the Michael Jordan clinic is the place to go.”
Whole-Person Care and Community Support
The clinics focus on holistic wellness, addressing social determinants like food insecurity in addition to medical needs. Medical assistant Ieshia Newkirk provides immediate help through food boxes and connects patients with social workers for ongoing support.
“We are here to help you,” Newkirk said, emphasizing the clinic’s dedication to every patient.
This whole-person approach ensures patients leave with stability, support, and guidance — not just treatment.
Social Media and Community Impact
The Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics have generated discussion online for their community-centered approach. Residents and patients frequently praise the clinics’ welcoming environment and comprehensive care. Fans recognize that Jordan’s contributions go beyond basketball, creating tangible impact in underserved communities.
The Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics are more than healthcare facilities — they are community hubs providing stability, access, and support. With four clinics now operating in North Carolina and a second Wilmington clinic coming soon, Michael Jordan continues to ensure healthcare access for all.
