This October, Investigation Discovery (ID) is doubling down on its advocacy and awareness efforts with the fourth year of its No Excuse for Abuse campaign, launched in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Teaming up with the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline), the only 24/7 resource for folks impacted by relationship abuse, and continuing their collaboration with the global nonprofit NO MORE, ID is using its platform to shine a light on the complicated dynamics of intimate partner violence.

Central to this year’s initiative is the gripping new documentary Hunted By My Husband: The Untold Story of the DC Sniper, premiering Tuesday, October 28 from 9-11pm ET/PT. The special reframes one of the most terrifying moments in American history through the eyes of a survivor. It reveals the story not as some random act of violence, but as a calculated act of domestic terrorism rooted in control, manipulation, and abuse.

At the heart of this narrative is Mildred Muhammad, ex-wife of convicted DC Sniper John Muhammad. Her testimony exposes how the 2002 attacks were part of John’s chilling plot to kill her and gain custody of their three children. The documentary weaves together exclusive interviews, rare home videos, and expert commentary to show how society, law enforcement, and the media overlooked critical signs of coercive control. It’s a stark reminder that domestic violence isn’t always visible, but the consequences can be devastating.

By spotlighting Mildred’s story, ID is challenging viewers to confront some uncomfortable truths: that domestic abuse often escalates into public tragedy, and that early intervention and understanding could save lives. Through its programming and partnerships, ID is amplifying messages of hope, reminding survivors that they are not alone and that resources like The Hotline are always available.

“As a network, our mission is to break the silence that allows abuse to persist,” said Jason Sarlanis, President of ID. “By fostering awareness, empathy, and action, we hope to help survivors reclaim their voices.”
