Ozempic, Zepbound Makers Face Potential $2 Billion Lawsuits

The pressure is mounting on Ozempic and Zepbound, two of the most talked-about drugs for weight loss and diabetes. It’s a situation that has many in our community paying close attention.

Over 2,000 lawsuits have been filed against Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, the companies behind these medications. Patients are claiming serious, even life-altering, side effects. This legal fight is definitely one to watch.

These cases have been grouped together as MDL No. 3094, playing out in a Pennsylvania federal court. Legal experts confirm that, as of August 2025, over 2,000 claims are active and the discovery phase is in full swing. The stakes are incredibly high.

The heart of these lawsuits? Allegations that patients developed gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), along with other serious issues like intestinal obstruction, ileus, constant vomiting, gallbladder problems, and even vision loss. It’s a heavy list of potential complications.

Even though the FDA has updated warning labels—most recently for Zepbound in 2025, adding ileus as a risk—both companies are standing firm, denying any wrongdoing. They claim their labels meet federal standards and that risks are clearly outlined. But are they really telling the whole story? This is what the courts will have to determine. For Big Pharma and the millions using these drugs, it’s a pivotal moment.

The outcome of this battle could have major consequences for Big Pharma and the millions of patients currently taking the drugs for diabetes or weight loss.

For Black folks, who statistically face higher rates of diabetes and related health issues, this situation carries even greater weight. We’re closely watching how Ozempic and Zepbound’s story unfolds, and what it means for accessible and safe healthcare in our community.
