Heavy hearts are with us this Monday as news broke of a tragic car crash in Nigeria involving boxing champion Anthony Joshua. Reports confirm the incident resulted in the unfortunate loss of two lives.
The collision, confirmed by local officials to the BBC, took place on Monday along the bustling Ogun–Lagos State Expressway. Eyewitnesses describe a two-vehicle incident where Anthony Joshua, the unified heavyweight boxing sensation, was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle that struck a stationary truck.
For those familiar with AJ’s deep connection to his Nigerian roots, particularly Sagamu in Ogun State, the news hits especially close to home. Graphic images quickly circulated online, showing the 36-year-old heavyweight sitting shirtless in the back of a vehicle, surrounded by broken glass. Other photos depict him visibly in pain, being helped from the wreckage by concerned bystanders.
Thankfully, Joshua was transported to a local hospital and is currently being treated for what are described as minor injuries.
Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo has since confirmed the accident, stating that an investigation is underway. “I can confirm to you that an accident occurred and the victim has been taken to the hospital,” he shared.
Just look at the terrible state of Nigeria.

This unfortunate incident comes on the heels of Joshua’s recent victory. Just days ago, the Olympic gold medalist delivered a stunning knockout to Jake Paul in the sixth round.
As many of you know, Paul himself was hospitalized following that bout, recovering from a broken jaw.
We will continue to follow this developing story and bring you updates as they become available.
