According to new court documents filed in New York County Supreme Court on January 24, Russell Simmons is facing accusations that he owes more than $3 million to two women, Toni Sallie and Alexia Norton Jones, for unpaid sexual assault settlement payments. The women had reached confidential agreements with Simmons in 2023, but now allege that the music mogul has failed to pay them the agreed-upon amounts.
Sallie, who first accused Simmons of sexual assault in a 2017 New York Times article, claims that Simmons owes her around $3 million. She alleges that he sexually assaulted her in his Manhattan apartment in the late ’80s after their relationship ended. The settlement she signed with Simmons was intended to be confidential, but Sallie now asserts that Simmons has only paid $60,000, and she seeks the remaining $2.94 million, along with 20% annual interest that has accrued since February 2024.
Norton Jones, who accused Simmons of assaulting her on a date in 1990, reportedly settled for $300,000 in an anonymous agreement. However, she alleges that Simmons has yet to pay her the full settlement, and her agreement also did not include an admission of wrongdoing on his part.
The court filings highlight ongoing issues with Simmons failing to fulfill settlement payments, as similar accusations were made last October by three other women in New York County Supreme Court. At press time, Simmons has not publicly responded to the latest claims.
While the settlements themselves remain confidential in terms of the specific allegations, the women’s pursuit of the remaining owed amounts raises questions about accountability and whether Simmons will face further legal action in the near future.
