It’s been almost five years since we all geeked out at the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and honestly, we weren’t that far from a fourth installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The No Way Home experience may never be topped, especially with the return of so many familiar faces, a wave of nostalgia that’s hard to beat. (Remember Michael Keaton as Batman? Didn’t quite hit the same way, did it?) Right now, details are scarce, with rumors swirling constantly. You gotta hand it to the team, though – minimal leaks, aside from those initial New York shots which felt kinda deliberate, right?
This new chapter is a major shift since No Way Home left Peter Parker completely on his own. Word on the street is fans are craving a more grounded, emotionally-driven story that redefines our hero. And with the endless characters and storylines Marvel and Sony could pull from, here are a few things we’re hoping to see in Brand New Day.
Let’s be real, seeing those OG Spideys back was epic, but we want more! Bringing back Maguire and Garfield for major screen time might be overkill, but a little interaction with Tom Holland’s Spidey? Pure gold. But, keeping it real, this film is being touted as a “rebirth” for the character. Maybe a nod to how Maguire and Garfield’s Peters helped him in the past is the best we can hope for. Even that little crumb would satisfy us.
Zendaya has killed it as MJ, no doubt. But it’s time to inject some more female superpowers into the mix! With so many interesting female characters, the possibilities are endless. The rumor mill is buzzing that Sadie Sink has been cast in a super-secret role. Comic book fans are guessing Jean Grey, which would make sense as Marvel is clearly setting up the X-Men’s arrival in the MCU. Other names being thrown around? Carlie Cooper, another MJ, and even Peter’s daughter, Mayday Parker. Mayday would be wild, but seeing Holland as a dad just feels… off. Cooper could fit right in, especially if they’re going for a street-level crime vibe, given her ties to the NYPD. Plus, she was a key player in the Brand New Day comic run.
Look, we all know Peter’s secret identity is toast after No Way Home, but we NEED him and MJ to find their way back to each other. That coffee shop scene broke our hearts! John Rocha, known for his insider scoops, says, “MJ has a new boyfriend, which is what causes Peter to snap a bit. And it makes the film a little darker and more grounded.” Interesting twist, right? But it also opens the door for Peter to explore new love interests. Word on the street is Sydney Sweeney was offered the role of Black Cat after her turn as Spider-Woman in Madame Web. Now that would be a love triangle to rival Maguire, Dunst, and Howard in Spider-Man 3!
The word here is grit, and Brand New Day needs a serious dose as it dives into street-level crime. Jon Bernthal is locked in to reprise his role as The Punisher, but with a caveat: he demanded the character maintain his R-rated edge. With him on board, how will they blend that with Holland’s more kid-friendly Spidey world? Frank Castle ain’t about spells and superpowers, he’s about guns, knives, and pure, unadulterated force – something most MCU heroes can’t relate to (except maybe Deadpool).
