COVINGTON, La. — A student at Covington High School in Louisiana is facing felony charges and up to 10 years in prison for participating in an alleged Tik Tok challenge where she assaulted her teacher.
On October 15, Larrianna Jameese Jackson, 18, was charged with felony Second Degree Battery and cruelty to the infirmed after attacking her 64-year-old disabled teacher after class.
Video of the attack, which was recorded by two other students from the back of the class, was given to the Covington Police Department.
According to the police, Jacksom physically assaulted the teacher after the dismissal bell rang. The video shows the teacher sitting at her desk where she appears to be talking to Jackson. Suddenly, Jackson punches the teacher, causing the teacher to fall to the ground. As the teacher fell to the ground, Jackson continues to close hit the teacher.
Due to injuries sustained by the attack, the teacher had to seek medical attention at a local hospital, police said.
Jackson was arrested for felony battery of a school teacher on Oct. 6. She faces up to 10 years for the crimes and will be arraigned on December 8.
Police say they learned that the attack may have been prompted by a trend on Tik Tok where users on the app are sharing a challenge to damage school property and attack teachers.
Days after the attack, police issued arrest warrants for the two teens who reportedly recorded the attack. CPD says the two teens — one 18-year-old Trinity Gervais and the other an unnamed juvenile — turned themselves in.
According to police, both were charged with Unlawful Posting of Criminal Activity for Notoriety and Publicity. The juvenile suspect was released on a custodial agreement, while Gervais was issued a misdemeanor summons, police said.
Officials add they want this incident to serve as a warning to youth that even videoing illegal activities can land them criminal charges.
