Charlene Keys—but you already know her as Tweet—is back to bless our ears. After holding it down in the background, the GRAMMY-nominated queen is ready to drop new music, with a new label, and a whole new album era. It’s a whole vibe.
Over the weekend, Tweet hit up Instagram to let her 411k followers know what’s good, confirming her new single “Toot Toot” will be hitting the airwaves September 26. Get ready!
“It’s time to take you back,” she wrote. “20 years in the making; I never left, I just kept recording. Next up [is] ‘Toot Toot’ from the highly anticipated Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird [album].” We been waiting, sis!
This announcement is everything, a long-awaited return since her last album, Charlene, back in 2016. This new project is picking up where her iconic 2002 debut Southern Hummingbird left off, the one that gave us timeless anthems like “Oops (Oh My)” and “Call Me.” That debut went straight to No. 2 on the Billboard R&B charts and made Tweet the sultry voice we all needed.
Tweet’s story is a testament to strength. Her journey almost took her out of the game, but Missy Elliott and Timbaland came through in the early 2000s, signing her to Missy’s Goldmind Records. Besides her solo heat, she blessed tracks for Missy, Ja Rule, Trina, Karen Clark Sheard, Monica, and Angie Stone. Talk about a legacy!
Now, with Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird on the horizon, Tweet is ready to reclaim her spot in R&B and remind everyone why that voice is forever unforgettable. We’re here for it all!
