Will Smith AI Controversy: Tour Promo Backlash

Folks are side-eyeing Will Smith after some fans accused him of using AI-generated footage in a recent Instagram post. The alleged purpose? To amp up the excitement around his Based On A True Story Tour.

On August 12th, Will posted a video of himself performing his inspirational track “You Can Make It.” The video seemed to depict a massive, energetic crowd waving signs and singing along. Will was seen walking across the stage and even climbing onto a barricade as the crowd seemingly “went wild.” He captioned the post:

“My favorite part of tour is seeing you all up close.”

But many fans weren’t convinced. Within minutes, commenters pointed out what they considered suspicious details: distorted faces, extra fingers, and oddly shaped hands that screamed AI glitches. Is this the Fresh Prince or a digital mirage?

    One commenter didn’t hold back:

“Imagine using AI and generating a sign about Cancer. This is absolute clown behavior.”

    Another joked:

“Fresh Prince of A.I. – The Bounce Back. This is awful.”

Others simply called it “embarrassing” for an icon of his status to allegedly rely on AI-generated crowds to create hype. Is the real Will not enough anymore?

Of course, some fans came to Will’s defense, suggesting the strange visuals could be due to poor video upscaling or compression, rather than artificial generation. Maybe it’s just bad tech, not bad intentions?

Smith didn’t specify which show the clip was from, but it could have been from his recent European stops – Smukfest in Denmark (Aug. 7) or Dreambeach Festival in Spain (Aug. 9). As of now, he hasn’t directly addressed the accusations.

This backlash arrives as Smith wraps up the UK leg of his tour, with upcoming shows in Manchester (Aug. 27), London (Aug. 28), Wolverhampton (Aug. 30), and Paris (Sept. 2). Get those tickets, y’all!

AI or not, the message from fans is clear: When it comes to Will Smith, they want the unfiltered, authentic experience. No digital doubles, please!
