Apple TV+ is turning up the tension once again with the return of Hijack, the high-stakes thriller starring and executive produced by Idris Elba. The streamer revealed the first look and premiere date for Season 2, which officially takes off on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, with a two-episode debut followed by weekly releases through February 25, 2026.
After captivating audiences with its heart-racing, real-time airplane hijacking in Season 1, Hijack raises the stakes for its sophomore season this time grounding the action in Berlin. When a subway train and its passengers are taken hostage beneath the city, chaos erupts above and below ground as authorities rush to prevent catastrophe. Once again, Elba’s Sam Nelson is thrust into the center of the crisis, where one misstep could mean disaster for hundreds of lives.
Created by George Kay (Lupin, Criminal) and Jim Field Smith (Litvinenko, Criminal), the eight-episode second season continues the partnership between 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions. Field Smith returns as lead director, with executive producers Kay, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash.
The ensemble cast reunites Elba with returning co-stars Christine Adams, Max Beesley, and Archie Panjabi, while expanding the universe with new additions Christian Näthe, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Lisa Vicari, Toby Jones, Karima McAdams, and Christiane Paul. It’s a lineup that promises to bring even more depth and international intrigue to the series’ taut storytelling.
Since its debut, Hijack has been one of Apple TV+’s most successful dramas, earning a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a spot on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list. Critics hailed the first season as “a shot of pure adrenaline,” praising Elba as a “commanding leading man” and the series as “tension-filled and gripping.” So, grab your popcorn, Black fam, because this one promises to keep you on the edge of your seat.
With Season 2 moving from the skies to the subways, Hijack looks poised to deliver another pulse-pounding ride. The complete first season is now streaming on Apple TV+.
