Bullying can leave deep scars. The pain of being teased, ridiculed, or harassed can linger for years. In the most tragic cases, victims feel suicide is the only escape.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time to bring these issues to the forefront. While every state has laws that can be applied to bullies, some haven’t specifically addressed electronic or cyberbullying in their legal language. Did you know these states have not explicitly address electronic forms of bullying in the verbiage of its laws?

Here are some statistics that might surprise you, revealing how widespread bullying is in our society.
Bullying affects a significant portion of our youth. Around 36.5% of students have been cyberbullied. A staggering 81% of young folks believe it’s easier to get away with bullying online than in person.
What’s even more concerning? Ninety percent of people who witness social media bullying ignore it. And nine out of ten teen victims won’t tell a parent or trusted adult about the abuse. Bullying victims are more likely to contemplate suicide, and approximately 75% of students have visited a website dedicated to bashing another student.
