Big ups to Janet Jackson! Her 1987 classic ‘Pleasure Principle‘ is having a whole new moment, y’all.
Why? Because it’s been sampled on Cardi B‘s ‘Principal’ – and let’s be real, that whole ‘Am I the Drama’ album is straight fire.
Word on the street is this is the first time the Queen of Pop has officially lent her vocals to another woman’s album. Major key!
Cardi B, ever the real one, recently chopped it up with Sway Calloway on ‘Sway’s Universe’ on SIRIUSXM. Of course, everyone wanted to know how the Janet collab happened and if there was a video coming. Keep reading for the tea!
Cardi (aka Belcalis Almanzar) spilled all the details on how some of the other stars on ‘Drama’ made it onto the album. We’re talking Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, Summer Walker, Tyla, Selena Gomez and more!
But Sway was all about Janet, naturally.
“She always supported me,” Cardi shared. “And if we ever ask Janet Jackson or any of the Jackson family for their support, you’d be very surprised that they answer fast and don’t play games with the [royalty] percentages.” That’s how you know they keep it real!
Even though they didn’t actually record together in the studio, Cardi says Janet was all in on the final version.
“I had the song a certain way, but she wanted the production to sound a certain way. And, she also wanted certain artists to be on it. So, we were like ‘she took over the whole sh-t,'” Cardi laughed, before adding, “I’m going to do whatever Janet Jackson wants me to do. Do whatever the f-ck you want, you get.” Respect!
When Sway hinted about a possible music video, Cardi just gave a sly smile and changed the subject. So, does that mean it’s happening? We’ll be watching!
