Real-time digital charts are unsurprisingly being dominated by Cardi B‘s September 19-released new album ‘Am I the Drama,’ but Nicki Minaj‘s 2023 LP ‘Pink Friday 2‘ – an unexpected contender to the top spot – is enjoying some serious sales and streaming surges thanks to a unified effort by her beloved #Barbz fan base.
Barely a day-and-a-half after ‘Drama’ landed on digital shelves and soared to the top of real-time Apple Music, Spotify, and iTunes tallies, chart analysts noticed increasing gains from Minaj’s ‘Friday 2’ on the same tallies.
Much like Cardi’s fans (affectionately called the #BardiGang) attempted during the 2023 release week of ‘Friday 2’ (as we reported here), #Barbz are returning the favor. It’s Black women supporting Black women, and we love to see it!
Bolstered by the fan group taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) with hashtags like #BarbzBlackout and phrases like “Stream Pink Friday 2,” the dedicated stans have been encouraging massive streams of the Nicki’s chart-topping project – to much success.
By Saturday afternoon (September 20), the LP – home to hits like ‘Super Freaky Girl,’ ‘FTCU,’ and ‘Everybody‘ – had already ascended to the #2 spot in iTunes’ real-time Rap sales chart and #6 on the all-genre tally.
Experiencing similar success on Spotify and Apple Music tallies, the sales and streaming gains may not be enough to eclipse ‘Drama’ but certainly promise just the boost needed to push ‘Friday 2’ back on to the updated Billboard 200 on Monday (September 22) and possibly the week that follows.
Minaj, currently on social media hiatus, has not publicly commented on the uptick in the album’s digital activity. We know she’s watching though! Always plotting, always planning. That’s our queen.
Keep it locked to Black Cosmopolitan to find out exactly where ‘Friday’ lands when the ‘Drama’-featured Billboard chart arrives on Monday (September 29).
