Karen Huger’s Friend “Cookie” Has a Shady Past — RHOP Fans Shocked to Learn About Her Criminal Record
Word on the street is that Cherita “Cookie” Whiting, a close friend of Karen Huger who graced our screens on The Real Housewives of Potomac this week, knows a thing or two about life on the inside.
In the latest episode, Cookie rolled up to Ashley Darby’s Second Bloom Ball, and the RHOP ladies – especially Gizelle Bryant – were thirsty for the tea on how Karen Huger is holding up behind bars. ICYMI, Karen’s been sentenced to a year following multiple DUI convictions, making her the talk of Potomac’s social circles.
When Gizelle cornered Cookie for the scoop, Cookie reassured her that “Karen’s doing good” and that she’s been in contact with Karen’s hubby, Ray Huger. “Oh yeah, I talk to Ray every day. He’s doing good. He’s golfing and everything like that,” Cookie stated with confidence.
But while Cookie played the part of a loyal and classy friend on screen, a little digging reveals that Cookie has a rather serious criminal history of her own.
The Truth About Cookie’s Past
According to federal and Maryland court records, Cherita “Cookie” Whiting served nearly two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud back in 2001. Court transcripts show she entered a guilty plea on July 3, 2001, after getting busted for lying about a prior felony conviction on a job application to work for Maryland council member Phil Mendelson.
And that’s not all. Before the federal conviction, Cookie was hit with multiple charges for crimes like fraud, forgery, passing bad checks, and theft. In 1994, she copped to theft, was put on house arrest, and had to pay restitution.
Over the years, courts have ordered Cookie to repay over $150,000 in diverted funds, according to both state and federal docs reviewed.

From Convict to “Socialite”?
These days, Cookie’s giving off polished DMV socialite vibes, rubbing elbows with Potomac’s finest and popping up on Bravo with her girl Karen Huger. But her rap sheet tells a different story – one that longtime RHOP fans are now calling out online.
One commenter said, “No wonder she’s so calm talking about Karen’s time behind bars — she’s been there before!” Another fan chimed in, “Cookie acting like she’s Potomac royalty when she’s got a whole federal case history. This is wild.”
Media Take Out’s Take
Looks like Karen Huger isn’t the only RHOP face with a history of legal drama. While Cookie might be basking in the spotlight as Karen’s ride-or-die friend, her past proves she’s no stranger to the justice system – or the consequences.
Still, it seems Karen and Cookie have something in common: both know what it means to stumble – and maybe, just maybe, bounce back.
