Prosecutors had actually pushed for a tougher sentence, ranging from three to nine months, for the polarizing artist, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez. He admitted to breaching his supervised release terms, leading to this new chapter. So, yeah, 6ix9ine couldn’t quite stay out of trouble.
This isn’t a new script for Hernandez. His long-running legal issues trace back to that infamous 2018 racketeering case. Remember when he flipped on the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods for a lighter sentence? After his guilty plea, he was out early in 2020, but the conditions were clear.
According to Billboard, our guy has been stacking up violations throughout his five-year supervised release. Last November (2024), he caught a 45-day jail sentence and an extra year of supervision for drug use and an unauthorized trip to Vegas. Then, this past February, he was found with cocaine and MDMA. And if that wasn’t enough, he got into a mall brawl in Florida just a few months later in August. Talk about a busy year.
His legal team argued for six months of house arrest instead, downplaying the seriousness by stating he had only “very small amount” of drugs and the assault wasn’t severe. His lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, even suggested that actual jail time would be “much more severe, difficult, and even dangerous” for him compared to the average inmate.
Lazzaro highlighted that due to Hernandez’s specific classification, he’s always segregated and fully isolated in jail. This means “extremely limited social interaction with other inmates and very little time outside to get fresh air and exercise.” It’s a unique situation for sure.
For those keeping track, 6ix9ine is scheduled to report to prison on January 6, 2026.
