Amanda Batula Blames West Wilson for Secret Romance

Reality TV drama just hit different when the messy details start spilling. Amanda Batula is trending online after she seemingly threw her lover, West Wilson, under the bus in last night’s Bravo special, and the internet has thoughts.

On last night’s Summer House bonus episode, The Aftermath, Amanda, 34, told Lindsay Hubbard that West, 31, pursued her after her separation from Kyle Cooke. This reality TV drama is giving all the emotional complexity we didn’t know we needed to unpack.

The episode, filmed after the season 10 reunion, followed Amanda as she tried to explain how her close friendship with West turned into something more while she was still reeling from the end of her marriage. Amanda said West made her feel “fun” again after months of feeling lost and alone.

“Maybe I confused going out with West and falling in love with myself again, and like remembering who I am with feelings,” she told Lindsay. Through tears, Amanda said the attention gave her “such a euphoric feeling,” adding, “It was hard to think rationally or logically through any of that.”

Lindsay acknowledged Amanda’s pain, but she questioned why Amanda allowed a romance with West to continue, given his history with Ciara Miller, her former best friend. This is where the cultural meditation on friendship and loyalty really kicks in.

“Why didn’t you shut it down?” Lindsay asked. “Why not at that point say, ‘No, I’m not doing that to Ciara’?”

Amanda admitted, “I was so focused on my happiness and like feeling good for the first time.” She also said West told her “all the right things” when she felt “unlovable.”

Still, Amanda seemed aware of the damage. “I just feel like really f-cking stupid,” she said.

Lindsay agreed and told her the only way forward was to get away from “the sinking ship that West Wilson is.”

Fans are accusing Bravo of giving Amanda the “victim” edit, and believe that they are trying to keep Amanda on the franchise or on the show’s In the City spinoff. The discourse around how the network frames these narratives continues to evolve.
