Big news! Fetty Wap is officially out of federal prison early. He served about three years of his six-year sentence.
PEOPLE magazine reports that Fetty Wap walked free on Thursday from FCI Sandstone, a federal prison in Minnesota. He’d been locked up there since 2023.
This early release is a big deal for the rapper, marking a new chapter after his conviction on drug-related charges.
The Backstory: Conviction and Sentence
For some context, Fetty Wap, real name Willie Maxwell II, pleaded guilty in August 2022. The charge? Conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances.
By May 2023, he received a six-year federal prison sentence. This whole situation came out of a multi-state drug trafficking investigation that nabbed several people.
Even with that heavy sentence, Fetty Wap is now out early, transitioning from prison custody.
Fetty Wap Thanks Fans, Ready to Give Back
In a statement to Billboard, Fetty Wap shared his deep gratitude for all the support he got while he was away.
“Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves,” he said.
Moving forward, the rapper is all about making a real community impact, especially through programs designed to uplift underserved youth.
Home Confinement: Strict Conditions Ahead
Fresh out of prison, Fetty Wap has moved straight to home confinement in Philadelphia.
Reports indicate he’ll be completely free from oversight custody on November 8. Until then, he’s under strict federal supervision.
So, what are the conditions of his release? They reportedly include:
- Mandatory drug testing
- Restrictions on opening bank accounts without federal approval
- Prohibition from possessing substances unless prescribed by a doctor
These kinds of requirements are pretty standard for anyone transitioning from federal custody to supervised release.
