“The Golden Palace” is an American television sitcom and the direct spin-off to The Golden Girls, continuing the story without Bea Arthur. It aired on CBS from September 18, 1992, to May 7, 1993.
The series starred Betty White, Rue McClanahan, Estelle Getty, Cheech Marin, and Don Cheadle, with Billy L. Sullivan appearing during the first half of the season. While it never reached the cultural popularity of its predecessor, the show completed one 24-episode season before CBS canceled it.
“The Golden Palace” picks up exactly where The Golden Girls ended, in the now-sold Miami home. With Dorothy Zbornak married and living elsewhere, the remaining housemates — Sophia Petrillo, Rose Nylund, and Blanche Devereaux — purchase a Miami hotel called The Golden Palace.
The women quickly discover the hotel has been stripped of almost all staff to appear profitable. Only two employees remain: Roland Wilson, the manager, and Chuy Castillos, the chef. This forces the trio to take on daily hotel operations themselves.
The show centers around the group’s interactions with guests and staff. Celebrity cameos appeared throughout the series, along with returning faces from The Golden Girls, including Debra Engle as Rebecca Devereaux, Herb Edelman as Stan Zbornak, and Harold Gould as Miles Webber. Bea Arthur also returned as Dorothy Zbornak for a two-part episode in which she visits the hotel to check on her mother.
