Hold up, fam! Former Vice President Kamala Harris is not holding back, joining a chorus of congressional leaders to slam President Donald Trump‘s move to capture and indict Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. She’s calling Trump’s actions “unlawful” and “unwise,” insisting it’s less about drugs or democracy and more about that oil money and, let’s be real, Trump’s ego.
This whole drama unfolded early Saturday morning (January 3rd) when U.S. Forces reportedly carried out several strikes across key locations in Venezuela. During the military operation, President Maduro and his wife were snatched up, put on a plane, and flown out of their country. They’re slated to face narcoterrorism conspiracy charges in New York City. The word on the street is that former VP Kamala Harris sees this as a dangerous play, echoing concerns about past interventions.
Maduro and his wife touched down at Stewart Airport in Orange County, New York, accompanied by several DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) agents. From there, the officials took the couple to a DEA field office in Manhattan for processing.
Officials then transferred The Maduros to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC Brooklyn). Yep, that’s the same spot that’s housed everyone from El Chapo and Diddy to Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, Luigi Mangione, Sam Bankman Fried, and Michael Cohen while they awaited federal trials. Talk about a who’s who of notoriety!
Harris didn’t just stop at a quick comment. She hit up her X account late Saturday with a full statement:
“Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela do not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable. That Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator does not change the fact that this action was both unlawful and unwise. We’ve seen this movie before. Wars for regime change or oil that are sold as strength but turn into chaos, and American families pay the price. The American people do not want this, and they are tired of being lied to.
This is not about drugs or democracy. It is about oil and Donald Trump’s desire to play the regional strongman. If he cared about either, he wouldn’t pardon a convicted drug trafficker or sideline Venezuela’s legitimate opposition while pursuing deals with Maduro’s cronies. The President is putting troops at risk, spending billions, destabilizing a region, and offering no legal authority, no exit plan, and no benefit at home. America needs leadership whose priorities are lowering costs for working families, enforcing the rule of law, strengthening alliances, and — most importantly — putting the American people first.”
Meanwhile, President Trump has been open about his intentions regarding Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. After capturing President Maduro, he reportedly stated that the U.S. plans to “run” the nation, “fix its oil infrastructure,” and even keep and sell off the country’s seized oil.
