Okay, fam, let’s talk about Mario. Our R&B brother found himself in the hot seat this weekend. What happened? During his performance at the Big Fresno Fair on October 12th, things got a little heated when he stopped his set to tell a cameraman to get off the stage. In front of everyone.
The “Let Me Love You” singer, now 37, was vibing through his 2004 hit “Braid My Hair” when he clearly got thrown off by someone’s presence right there with him on stage.
Folks online had opinions, naturally.
Some understood where Mario was coming from, thinking maybe it was a safety thing. Others felt like he came down too hard on someone who didn’t seem to be causing any real harm.
A few hours later, Mario hit up social media to clear the air, explain himself, and drop an apology. Real talk.
“PEOPLE ARE MISINFORMED ABOUT THE FRESNO SITUATION,” he wrote, all caps for emphasis. “NO ONE TOLD US A CAMERA MAN WAS SHOOTING MY SET… MULTIPLE TIMES I GOT DISTRACTED AND ONE TIME ALMOST TRIPPED OVER A SPEAKER TRYING TO MAKE SURE I’M NOT WALKING IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS HIM. HE WAS TOO FAR DOWN STAGE… IT REALLY CAN THROW YOU OFF.”
Mario owned up to letting his frustration bubble over. We all been there, right?
“I WILL TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR BEING 0 TO 100 TYPE OF PERSON. I NEVER WANT ONE RECORDED INCIDENT TO WIPE AWAY THE WORK I’VE DONE AS A PERSON TO STAY OUT OF YA’LL MOUTHS AND THE BLOGS!”
He wrapped it up with a positive vibe, speaking directly to the cameraman and his fans:
“TO THE CAMERA MAN, YOU GOT CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE MY BOI… IT WAS NOTHING PERSONAL. YOU’RE WELCOMED TO COME AND SHOOT ME ON TOUR. TO THE FANS WHO WERE TRIGGERED, I LOVE U.”
The whole thing might’ve been a shock, but Mario stepping up to take responsibility seems to have smoothed things over for a lot of people. We love to see accountability!
