“Namibia says NO!π πΎββοΈ President Nandi-Ndaitwah rejects Gates Foundation IUD trial. 8 years?! Our bodies, our choice!”
Namibia’s President, Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, is standing firm in protecting the health and reproductive rights of Namibian women. She recently rejected a proposal from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to conduct trials in the country for a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) designed to prevent pregnancy for up to eight years.
This decision highlights the critical importance of bodily autonomy and informed consent, particularly within Black communities. The President’s refusal underscores the need for reproductive healthcare solutions that prioritize the well-being and long-term health of women, instead of potentially using them as test subjects.
This move sends a powerful message globally: Black women’s bodies are not laboratories. It’s a reminder that we deserve access to safe, ethical, and culturally sensitive healthcare that empowers us to make informed decisions about our own reproductive journeys.
