Oliver ‘Power’ Grant, Founding Member Of Wu-Tang Clan & Founder Of Wu Wear, Dies At 52

    Prayers: Oliver “Power” Grant, a founding member of Wu-Tang Clan and the founder of Wu Wear, has passed away at 52. Power is an original member of the iconic Hip-Hop group coming out of New York City in the early 1990s.

    On Tuesday (February 24), Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man announced Power’s passing and on Wednesday (February 25), Wu-Tang Clan as a group confirmed the news. Power’s passing follows that of OlDirty Bastard, who transitioned at 35 in November 2004.

    In Power’s death, the Hip-Hop group did not reveal a cause. However, nearly all members of Wu-Tang Clan have taken to social media to share their condolences and pay tribute to their brother, Oli. On the group’s social media page, they wrote, “Rest in Power, Power.”

    Power’s passing arrives as Wu-Tang Clan is nominated for the 2026 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He played a pivotal role in the group’s success by executive=producing their albums and overseeing various business ventures, including the founding of Wu Wear clothing line.

    Power grew up in the Park Hill projects of Staten Island, New York, alongside his future co-members of the Wu-Tang Clan. In 1992, he helped collect the necessary financing to create Wu-Tang Clan’s debut single “Protect Ya Neck.”

    While sharing a photo with Power, Method Man said, “Paradise my Brother safe Travels!!! Bruh I am not ok.” Raekwon wrote, “A 5 star General in the army of life ! …. they don’t make em like you anymore. thankyou BIG POWERFUL ” we gave you that name for many reasons. may allah preserve a place for you and forgive ya sins. condolences to the Grant family! rest well Pook.”

    RZA shared a blacked-out image and simply captioned it, “5.”

    GZA wrote, “‘Word life, peace to Power and my whole unit.’ We couldn’t have done it without him. Wu wouldn’t have come to fruition without Power. His passing is a profound loss to us all. My deepest condolences to the fam.”

    U-God wrote, “I’ve known Power since I was 5 years old, his mother and my mother were friends this one hurts bad you’ll be missed ….Rest in Peace my brother.”

    Mathematics wrote, “My Brother Always.. Rest In Power.. All Praises Forever Due!!!” Wutang is forever!!!”

    Masta Killa wrote, “Our Brother Power. Sending My Love, Peace & Blessings to the family. Rest in Power.” He also shared a photo of the group on stage and wrote, “Prepare for the Final Chamber.”

    Inspectah Deck wrote, “I love you my brother rest easy. I do not have the words to put in writing. You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You helped me save my life and I am forever grateful. Long live the great Oli ‘Power’ Grant.”

    Cappadonna and Ghostface Killah haven’t shared any public posts at the time of publishing.
