Word on the street is Dan Fogelman is tapping into that “This Is Us” magic again for his next project. You know we love to see Black talent getting work! This time, he’s calling on Omar Epps for his upcoming untitled football drama series at Hulu.
Led by Christopher Meloni (from “Law & Order: SVU”), the series dives deep into the high-stakes world of the NFL, exploring the family dynamics within a professional football organization. We’re talking generational drama, y’all!
Meloni stars as Danny, the team’s head coach, alongside Sam Corlett and Tanner Zagarino as his sons. The legendary William H. Macy plays team owner Hank Durkin, while Mandy Moore and Chloe Bennet step in as Hank’s daughters. Chace Crawford joins the roster as the team’s new General Manager.
And here’s where our guy Omar Epps enters the game. He’ll be recurring as a former NFL player who’s now calling the shots as the team’s Offensive Coordinator. This series is coming to us from 20th Television and Skydance Sports, with Fogelman writing and executive producing alongside Jess Rosenthal and Kevin Falls. Skydance’s David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, and Jason T. Reed also are on board as executive producers.
This isn’t the first time Epps and Fogelman have teamed up. Epps made a memorable appearance in Season 4 of NBC’s “This Is Us” as Darnell, the mechanic father of Malik (played by Asante Blackk). Talk about a full-circle moment!
Before this, Epps was killing it as Detective Malcolm Howard on Starz’s “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” and he recently wrapped production on the film “Moses the Black.”
Fogelman’s new football drama is keeping his Hulu collaborations going strong. Earlier this year, his series “Paradise,” starring Sterling K. Brown (another “This Is Us” alum!), premiered to major buzz and snagged four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Fogelman clearly knows how to create television that connects, resonates, and gets nominated. Keep shining king!
