Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer Moises Saman on TIME September: Sudan’s Invisible Anguish

The world often turns a blind eye to suffering, and Sudan’s agony is a stark example. For two brutal years, a civil war has ravaged the nation, claiming an estimated 150,000 lives and forcing nearly a quarter of Sudan’s 50 million people from their homes.

This tragedy unfolds largely unseen, overshadowed by conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, and escalating tensions in East Asia. Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer Moises Saman witnessed this hidden crisis firsthand during his time in Darfur and Sudanese refugee camps in Chad this past summer.

Saman’s experience highlights the urgent need to bring attention to the suffering in Sudan. We can’t afford to let this anguish remain invisible.
