Don Julio Debuts ‘Year Of The Snake’ 1942 Añejo Tequila

0

A beautiful new bottle of top-shelf tequila is here to sip in 2025.

Don Julio’s 1942 Añejo is one of the most in-demand sipping tequilas on the market today, but for 2025 it will matter not just whether you’ve got the liquid on your bar, but which bottle it’s housed within. That’s because Don Julio has taken their rare 1942 liquid and released a special collection for the Lunar New Year: Don Julio 1942 Year of the Snake.

The liquid in this release is not different from the liquid in the standard 1942 releases. That means the same añejo, same wood-forward profile, and the same minimum 2.5-year aging process as the regular bottle. Many brands release so-called “art bottles” for holidays. This one is definitely a work of art—a red and gold eye-catcher of a bottle, with a design “merging the Chinese Zodiac snake and the Aztec feathered serpent.”

This release marks an interesting shift, however, in trends. The Lunar New Year is typically the realm of high-end whisky and cognac releases; tequila typically releases its holiday-themed limited editions around Day of the Dead and Cinco de Mayo. Don Julio’s selection of the Lunar New Year signals two things in particular—that super-premium tequila’s reach is now extending to Asian markets, and that Asian markets interested in super-premium spirits are noticing tequila.

Will that mean less for the U.S. market and more for the foreign markets? That remains to be seen. A limited number of retailers will be stocking this limited-edition packaging while supplies last. It’s a unique way to have 1942 in your collection while standing out a little from the crowd and have a little extra tequila in January. $200

LL Cool J Claims He Introduced Air Jordan Sneakers To Hip-Hop Culture

0

Hip-Hop legend LL Cool J is no stranger to proclaiming himself a “G.O.A.T.” (Greatest of All Time), and now he’s adding another feather to his cap, claiming he pioneered the introduction of Michael Jordan’s iconic Air Jordans into Hip-Hop culture. In a recent interview with Big Boy’s Off Air series, LL Cool J shared a bold statement, asserting he was the first rapper to wear Air Jordans on an album cover.

Making Sneaker History

Reflecting on his debut album Radio, released in November 1985, the Queens native revealed that he sported a pair of Air Jordans on the cover—a time when basketball legend Michael Jordan was still a rookie in the NBA. “My first album cover, I had the Jordan sneakers on when he was a rookie. I was the first person with the Jordans on in the Radio album cover,” LL Cool J explained.

The rapper-turned-actor highlighted how, at the time, brands like Adidas and Puma dominated the sneaker game. But LL Cool J’s early adoption of the now-iconic Air Jordans showcased his foresight and fashion-forward thinking. “Michael Jordan was a rookie when I did that. Everyone was wearing Adidas and Puma, bro,” LL added. “I put the Jordans on. He ain’t even have no championships.”

This claim underscores LL Cool J’s role as a trailblazer, not only in music but also in bridging the worlds of fashion, sports, and Hip-Hop culture.

A Nostalgic Love for Sneakers

On social media, LL doubled down on his statements, further emphasizing his passion for stylish footwear. “I wore the very first pair of Jordan’s on my very first album. I’m talking when Jordan was a rookie,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I’m not hating on sneakerheads. Don’t get offended—I like sneakers!!!!”

For LL, his love for sneakers goes beyond trends or accolades. It’s about personal expression, something he’s always infused into his music and style.

Michael Jordan and LL Cool J’s Shared Rise

Michael Jordan’s debut in the NBA in 1984 was quickly followed by the release of the first Air Jordan sneakers on April 1, 1985. LL Cool J’s timeline aligns closely with Jordan’s, as Radio was released just months later, on November 18, 1985. It’s likely that LL’s album photoshoot occurred earlier that year, cementing his claim of being one of the first prominent figures to showcase Jordans in the Hip-Hop world.

As a cultural touchstone, Air Jordans have since become synonymous with both basketball and Hip-Hop, cementing a legacy that LL Cool J claims to have helped ignite.

Celebrating the Legacy

Now 56 years old, LL Cool J continues to remind fans of his role as a pioneer. During the Off Air interview, he credited his bold choices—not just in music but also in style—for shaping his legacy. Whether or not his claim as the first rapper to wear Jordans will spark debates among sneakerheads, it’s clear that LL Cool J’s contributions to Hip-Hop culture go far beyond his music.

The rapper-turned-actor’s enduring relevance was evident during his recent appearances, including his attendance at events like the Superfan Series Premiere Watch Party in Times Square and A GRAMMY Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop. His energy and influence continue to bridge generations.

Chris Brown Raises Eyebrows With His Claim About Los Angeles Fires

0

The Los Angeles wildfires have left a trail of destruction, and now, Chris Brown has entered the conversation with a controversial claim. The R&B star recently took to social media, alleging that the fires might be intentionally started. In his now-deleted Instagram Story, Brown said, “Someone starting these fires. S— don’t add up,” sparking a heated online debate.

The Devastation in Los Angeles

The fires in Los Angeles County have already displaced thousands of residents and destroyed numerous homes. Authorities have identified high winds, dry vegetation, and rising temperatures as significant factors contributing to the fires’ rapid spread. However, investigations are ongoing to determine if any human activity could be responsible for the blazes.

Chris Brown’s comment has added another layer to the discourse. While some fans support his perspective, suggesting there may be more to the story, others have criticized the statement, accusing him of promoting baseless conspiracy theories.

Why the Fires Are a Growing Concern

Los Angeles has been plagued by wildfires in recent years, and this season is no exception. Climate change continues to exacerbate these disasters, with longer fire seasons and more intense blazes becoming the new norm. According to Cal Fire, over 4,200 wildfires have occurred in California this year alone, burning more than 116,000 acres.

The speculation around intentional fire-setting is not new. Last year, reports revealed that some fires in California were linked to human negligence or arson. However, the majority were attributed to natural causes, including lightning strikes and high temperatures.

The Online Backlash

Chris Brown’s post has stirred mixed reactions on social media. Some followers applauded him for bringing attention to a potential issue, while others were quick to dismiss his claim. One fan wrote, “He’s not wrong; this has happened before,” while another commented, “Please don’t spread misinformation during such a critical time.”

His statement also raises questions about the influence celebrities hold in shaping public opinion. With a platform of millions, any comment can spark widespread discussion—whether based on fact or speculation.

A Broader Discussion

As authorities work to control the fires and determine their origins, Brown’s claim serves as a reminder of the power—and responsibility—of public figures in shaping narratives. While it’s essential to raise awareness about the devastation caused by these wildfires, misinformation can also lead to unnecessary panic and confusion.

The Los Angeles fires continue to burn, leaving communities on edge and emergency services stretched thin. Whether intentional or not, these disasters highlight the urgent need for comprehensive fire prevention strategies and resources to protect vulnerable areas.

Secret To Sticking With Your Intentions All Year Long

New Year’s resolutions often seem like a setup for failure

I start the new year off with a ‘New Attitude’ like the Patti LaBelle song, but without fail, I fall off the New Year’s Resolution wagon. How can I make a new start and stick with it?

Signed,
I’m on the Struggle Bus

Dear Struggle Bus,

I hear you! New Year’s resolutions often seem like a setup for failure. Did you know research shows 23% of people quit their resolutions by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of January? On the bright side, 46% stick to them for six months, but only 8% make it all year.

Here’s the good news: with a few mindset shifts, you can defy the odds and stay on track. Let’s dive in!

1. Words Matter

Resolutions can carry a heavy, negative connotation. Let’s reframe them as intentions. According to Oxford, an intention is “a thing intended; an aim or plan.” Simply put, it’s a goal or target—a more positive and purposeful perspective.

2. Reflect on the Why

Reflection is the most overlooked yet critical step in planning. Pause to consider where you are, where you want to go, and why.

Ask yourself:
– What does success look like?
– What accomplishments am I proud of so far?
– What are my opportunities to grow?
– What fears are holding me back?
– What gets me out of bed in the morning?

These questions aren’t just for reflection—they guide you in setting meaningful intentions. They shift you off the hamster wheel of daily life and onto a path of progress.

3. Make It SMART

To turn intentions into achievements, they need structure. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.

For instance, instead of saying, “I will lose 40 pounds,” break it down:
– “I will lose 3 to 8 pounds this month by working out 3 to 5 days a week, drinking 64 ounces of water daily, and making healthier food choices.”

Still too big? Start smaller:
– “I will move for 30 minutes a day and drink 64 ounces of water this week.”

Still too big? Try:

– “I will move for at least 10 minutes a day and drink at least eight ounces of water with each meal.”

Small steps prevent goal paralysis and build momentum.

4. Remember to Daydream

Visualization is a powerful tool. Imagine what success feels, looks, sounds, and even tastes like. Write down these details or record a video journal to refer back to when you need a boost.

5. Use the Buddy System

Accountability is key. Find a buddy who will keep you honest and motivated. For example, if your intention is to be kinder to yourself, have your buddy ask daily, “Were you kind to yourself today?”

You can even rate your self-kindness as a percentage to keep it measurable. Schedule regular check-ins, set calendar reminders, and help each other stay on track.

Struggle Bus, sticking to your intentions doesn’t have to feel impossible. By shifting your mindset, reflecting on your why, structuring your goals, visualizing success, and leaning on accountability, you can become one of the 8% who see their intentions through to the end.

Happy New Year! You’ve got this!

Plies Sues Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B & Others

0

Over the past few months Plies did what he could to help get people to the polls and vote for their freedom and future. Now that the election is over the Floridian is getting back to business and taking a few of his Hip-Hop peers to court over copyright infringement.

According to TMZ, Plies has sued the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla and Cardi B for sampling his song “Me & My Goons” without proper clearance. In the lawsuit Plies states that his 2008 cut was sampled on Megan and GloRilla’s collaboration song “Wanna Be,” which ultimately landed a verse from Cardi B on the remix. For her participation in the hit song, Cardi done got herself wrapped up in the lawsuit as well.

Interestingly enough, Soulja Boy seems to be the first to have taken Plies’ beat and ran with it on his 2010 track “Pretty Boy Swag.” After listening to all of these songs, the man might have a strong case.

The suit also names Meg’s Hot Girl Productions, Soulja’s former imprint Collipark Productions, and record labels Universal Music Group, Collective Music Group and Interscope as defendants.
If the suit is successful, the damages could cost everyone plenty of shiny pennies.
We’re not taking any sides on this one, but it looks like Plies might have an open and shut case. Just sayin’.
Check out all three of the songs after the jump, and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Royal Enfield’s ‘Flying Flea’ Electric Motorcycle Has Vintage Military Style

0

Electromod excellence.

If you want to buy an electromod-style bike straight from the factory, Royal Enfield has you covered. The historied India-based motorcycle maker revealed the notably retro, all-electric Flying Flea. And much like the Harley-Davidson LiveWire, that’s the name of a new sub-brand, not just a model.

Unlike the LiveWire, though, the design ] is heavily informed by heritage. As BIKE EXIF points out, the original Royal Enfield Flying Flea was a feathery 125-cc moto that was compact enough to air-drop into Europe alongside paratroopers during WWII, hence the new parachute logo.

Royal Enfield enthusiasts will certainly see the new, electrified Flying Flea S6’s resemblance to the OG, especially in-profile. The original’s girder fork has been recreated from modern forged aluminum, the same material used to make the frame. The battery is enclosed in a magnesium case, and the silhouette line created by the faux gas tank and 1900s-style floating seat is among the most stunning and convincing homages to classic motorcycles that anyone has seen in some time.

Royal Enfield crafted the look as thoughtfully and carefully as they crafted the technology in-house. According to BIKE EXIF, 28 patents have been filed to cover the Flying Flea S6’s various components in the last six months alone. Other details haven’t been revealed, but if you register interest here, you’ll likely be the first to get the skinny on output, range, and all other relevant performance specs.

Blackface: Why It’s Still Happening and Will It Ever Truly End?

Blackface. The very word sparks anger, frustration, and deep pain for Black people across the globe. It’s 2025, yet here we are, still having to unpack its repeated resurgence in politics, entertainment, fashion, and even everyday interactions. What is it about this practice—born from the vilest stereotypes—that keeps cropping up in headlines, TikTok videos, and “controversial” Halloween costumes? Let’s take a deep dive into what’s been happening recently, why blackface is still here, and what it means for a society that claims to value progress.

A Quick History Reminder (Because Apparently, We Still Need It)

Blackface originated in 19th-century America as a staple of minstrel shows where white performers would darken their faces with burnt cork or shoe polish to mock enslaved Black people. These performances portrayed Black people as lazy, dim-witted, and happy in their subjugation, perpetuating harmful stereotypes that justified slavery and segregation.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and you’d think such practices would be confined to history books. But no. Instead, blackface continues to resurface, leaving many Black people wondering how such blatant ignorance or willful disrespect persists.

Blackface in the Headlines: From Politics to Pop Culture

It seems like every few months, blackface makes an unwelcome appearance, reminding us just how far we still have to go:

The Political Fallout

In late 2024, U.S. Representative Mike Lawler faced backlash after photos emerged of him in blackface as part of a Michael Jackson costume during a college Halloween party. While Lawler claimed he was a “super fan” and meant no harm, his apology did little to ease the outrage.

Reality TV Blunders

Let’s not forget the Polish talent show that featured contestants in blackface imitating Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé. This aired in September 2023, causing a global uproar. Despite the international condemnation, the show’s producers refused to issue a meaningful apology, claiming it was all in good fun.

Social Media Outrage

In early 2024, a viral video showed shoppers in blackface being kicked out of a Boston Sephora. The brand swiftly condemned the act, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy for racism. Still, the damage was done, and the incident left many Black consumers shaken.

Digital Blackface: The Internet’s Unseen Offense

Then there’s “digital blackface,” where non-Black people use memes or GIFs featuring Black individuals to express emotions or humor. While seemingly harmless to some, this behavior perpetuates stereotypes and appropriates Black culture without acknowledgment of its historical weight.

And Just Last Week…

A new controversy arose when photos surfaced of Australian students from an elite private school wearing blackface during an “Africa-themed” party. Despite the uproar, some parents defended their children, claiming they didn’t know better. How is this still an excuse in 2025?

Source: News.com.au

Why Does This Keep Happening?

At its core, blackface persists because of two things: ignorance and willful disregard. For some, it’s a lack of education. For others, it’s a refusal to acknowledge the harm because it disrupts their privilege or fun.

Moreover, the internet’s global reach amplifies these incidents, turning local acts of insensitivity into international scandals. While this public shaming often forces apologies, it doesn’t always lead to meaningful change. Instead, the cycle of offense-apology-outrage continues, leaving Black communities exhausted and frustrated.

The Emotional Toll on Black Communities

Each time blackface resurfaces, it reopens old wounds. It’s not just offensive; it’s a stark reminder of systemic racism and the ongoing struggle for equality. For Black people, these incidents feel personal—like a slap in the face after years of progress and advocacy.

“Every time I see blackface, it’s like a part of me has to relive the trauma my ancestors endured,” shared Maya, a 32-year-old activist from Harlem. “It’s not just makeup; it’s history, pain, and disrespect rolled into one.”

Can We Finally Put an End to This?

The answer lies in education, accountability, and systemic change:

  1. Education: Schools must include the history of blackface and its implications in curriculums. Ignorance can no longer be an excuse.
  2. Accountability: Organizations, celebrities, and public figures must face real consequences for perpetuating or enabling blackface.
  3. Cultural Sensitivity Training: Businesses and entertainment platforms need to prioritize training that helps employees and creatives understand why blackface is never okay.
  4. Black Voices Leading the Narrative: It’s crucial that Black people are at the forefront of these conversations, ensuring the focus remains on education and healing.

The Fight Isn’t Over

While the world has made strides in addressing racism, the persistence of blackface proves we have a long way to go. Each new incident is a call to action—a reminder that true equality requires constant vigilance and effort.

As Black people, we must continue to push back, educate, and hold others accountable. Because at the end of the day, blackface isn’t just an offensive act; it’s a reflection of the racism still ingrained in our society. And we deserve better.

8 Tips For Better Sleep, According To An Equinox Sleep Scientist

0

Snooze-worthy tips for optimizing sleep from Dr. Matthew Walker, author of “Why We Sleep.”

Equinox is best known for its high-end fitness clubs, but the famed gym brand has also operated a wellness-themed luxury hotel in New York City’s Hudson Yards since 2019. Equinox Hotel New York is leaning into the booming sleep tourism trend by partnering with Dr. Matthew Walker, author of Why We Sleep: Unlocking The Power of Sleep and Dreams, and professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. The five-star property—which boasts stylish interiors by The Rockwell Group along with a requisite Equinox health club and Soulcycle franchise—offers plenty of sleep-focused activities for guests seeking a restorative getaway.

Hotel amenities include snooze-centric spa treatments, morning and evening rituals designed to optimize circadian rhythms, and an Art + Science of Sleep program featuring Sleep IV-Drips and “personalized sleep coaching.” The somnolent partnership further utilizes Walker’s expertise with jet lag recovery strategies for guests at the Manhattan wellness resort, a concept that Equinox plans to expand to properties in Saudi Arabia and Europe. Here, Walker shares eight essential sleep tips—one for every hour of ideal nightly slumber. “People don’t respond to rules, they respond to reasons,” he says. “When you know why these strategies work, it’s easier to commit to them.”

(Equinox Hotel New York)

1. Anchor Your Internal Clock with Regularity

Reason: “Your circadian rhythm thrives on consistency. Irregular sleep schedules confuse your internal clock, disrupting the quality of your sleep.”

What to Do: “Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Keep your schedule within a 30-minute window.”

Why It Works: “Regularity strengthens your biological rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep and wake up refreshed.”

2. Begin Your Day with Morning Light Exposure

Reason: “Light is the primary regulator of your circadian rhythm. Morning light signals your brain to suppress melatonin and helps set your internal clock.”

What to Do: “Spend 10 to 15 minutes outside in natural light within an hour of waking. If outdoor light isn’t available, use a light therapy box.”

Why It Works: “Exposure to morning light helps align your sleep-wake cycle, improving sleep timing and quality.”

3. Wind Down with a Pre-Sleep Routine

Reason: “Your body needs a clear signal to transition from wakefulness to sleep. Stress or overstimulation in the evening disrupts this process.”

What to Do: “Establish a 30 to 60 minute wind-down routine. Engage in calming activities like reading, stretching, or meditation in dim light.”

Why It Works: “A consistent routine tells your brain it’s time to sleep, reducing pre-sleep anxiety and helping you fall asleep faster.”

4. Cool Down for Deep Sleep

Reason: “Your core body temperature naturally drops during sleep. A cooler environment supports this process, aiding both sleep onset and quality.”

What to Do: “Keep your bedroom at 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit. Alternatively, take a warm bath or shower an hour before bed to promote a cooling effect.”

Why It Works: “The drop in core temperature signals your body to prepare for deep, restorative sleep.”

5. Sleep in Complete Darkness

Reason: “Light, even at low levels, can suppress melatonin production, disrupting your sleep cycles.”

What to Do: “Use blackout curtains or an eye mask to eliminate light sources. Remove electronics or turn on ‘night mode’ to reduce blue light exposure.”

Why It Works: “A pitch-dark environment promotes melatonin production, ensuring your sleep remains undisturbed.”

6. Eliminate Noise

Reason: “Noise interruptions fragment your sleep, reducing its restorative effects even if you don’t fully wake.”

What to Do: “Use earplugs, white noise machines, or apps to mask disruptive sounds. Alternatively, address noise sources in your home, like creaky doors or loud appliances.”

Why It Works: “A quiet environment supports seamless transitions between sleep stages, maximizing restorative benefits.”

7. Manage Nighttime Stress

Reason: “Stress activates the fight-or-flight response, increasing cortisol levels and preventing restful sleep.”

What to Do: “Practice stress-relief techniques like box breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or guided meditation. Write down your worries or plans for the next day to clear your mind.”

Why It Works: “Relaxing the nervous system before bed calms your mind and body, promoting deep and uninterrupted sleep.”

8. Align Sleep with Your Chronotype

Reason: “Your chronotype dictates when your body naturally feels sleepy and alert. Ignoring it causes ‘circadian misalignment.’”

What to Do: “Identify your chronotype—morning person, night owl, or intermediate—using the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ). Adjust your sleep schedule accordingly.”

Why It Works: “Sleeping in sync with your natural biological preference improves sleep efficiency and overall health.”
