A Connecticut state trooper has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a motorist after a high-speed car chase in 2020.
On January 15, 2020, Connecticut state police said 19-year-old Mubarak Soulemane stole a vehicle and led troopers on a high-speed chase on Interstate 95 before troopers boxed the vehicle in.
Body cam footage showed the troopers surrounding Soulemane’s vehicle where the chase ended. A West Haven police officer broke the passenger window and attempted to shoot Soulemane with a Taser, which did not work.
According to police, Trooper Brian North then fired seven times into the vehicle through a closed driver side window because he claims he saw Soulemane reach for something. Troopers said they later found a knife in the car.
After a more than two-year long investigation, the State of Connecticut Office of Inspector General found the shooting to be unjustified and charged North with first-degree manslaughter. He was arrested on Tuesday and released on a $50,000 bond. North was placed on paid administrative leave and his police powers were suspended.
In a report released Wednesday morning, Inspector General Robert Devlin’s office said the shooting was not justified.
“At the time Trooper North fired his weapon, neither he nor any other person was in imminent danger of serious injury or death from a knife attack at the hands of Soulemane,” the report said. “Further, any belief that persons were in such danger was not reasonable.”
The report also included a statement given by North who said, Soulemane was “holding the knife in an aggressive manner” and appeared to be preparing to attack other officers who were outside the car.
“Based on these circumstances, I believed that (the other officers) were at imminent risk of serious physical injury or death, and could have been stabbed in the neck or face as they attempted to enter the vehicle and remove the suspect. As a result, I discharged my duty firearm to eliminate the threat,” the statement said.
According to his family, Soulemane was a community college student who had schizophrenia. Soulemane’s mother, Omo Mohammed, has a pending wrongful death lawsuit against North and other officers who were at the scene.
“Thank God Trooper Brian North was arrested,” Mohammed said in a statement provided by her lawyers. “I now want to see him convicted and sent to jail.”
North is scheduled to be arraigned May 3 in Milford Superior Court.
Legendary hip-hop DJ and graffiti artist Kay Slay passed away on Easter Sunday after after battling COVID-19 for months. He was 55.
The disc jockey and record executive, whose real name was Keith Grayson, died Sunday evening after a four-month battle with COVID-19.
Kay Slay’s family confirmed his death in the following statement to The NY Post:
“Our hearts are broken by the passing of Keith Grayson, professionally known as DJ Kay Slay,” the bereaved Grayson family wrote in a touching tribute. “A dominant figure in Hip Hop culture with millions of fans worldwide, DJ Kay Slay will be remembered for his passion and excellence with a legacy that will transcend generations.”
They continued, “In memory of DJ Kay Slay, our family wishes to thank all of his friends, fans, and supporters for their prayers and well wishes during this difficult time. We ask that you respect our privacy as we grieve this tragic loss.”
BATON ROUGE, La. – NBA legend Shaquille O’ Neal is covering the funeral expenses for a family in mourning after a young child was tragically killed by a stray bullet as he slept in his bed.
Devin Page Jr., a 3-year-old boy from Baton Rouge, Louisiana was fatally shot on 12th April. The preschooler was asleep in his bed next to his 1-year-old sister when a stray bullet flew through his bedroom window striking him and killing him instantly.
Police believe the bullet was from a gunfight that was taking place outside the family’s home, however an ongoing investigation has not revealed much more information as of yet.
The child’s family stated that they had hoped to move from the area due to other violent incidents that regularly occur there but were unable to because they could not afford it.
“I try to stick it out. Now that I stick it out, this is the outcome of what happened. My son got killed,” Devin’s mother Tye Toliver said.
O’Neal, speaking to the grieving family via a FaceTime call, offered his condolences and said he and a pastor friend were going to “…take care of everything.”
Shaq, who attended Louisiana State University (LSU), is partnering with Greater Beulah Baptist Church to provide the funeral service.
This is not the first time he has done something similar. He also covered the funeral costs for an 11-year-old’s death back in 2020 in Baton Rouge.
The police have not made any arrests as of yet and an investigation is ongoing.
A thrifty bride determined to keep her wedding costs low went viral after revealing how she and her husband spent only $500 on their beautiful wedding.
Kiara Brokenbrough said she and her new hubby Joel, didn’t want to go into debt with an expensive wedding, so they got creative when planning their ceremony.
“I just seen how, culturally, how we’ve gotten so far away from how weddings were something so simple as bride and groom coming together, bowing to God to stay together and bowing to each other to stay together and in front of witnesses,” Kiara told The Times. “I’m not going to go into debt over this. I’m not going to spend a whole bunch of money, or stress and get in people’s pockets over such an event that’s going to last one day.”
After trying on multiple dresses that cost over $1,000, Kiara decided to order her wedding dress from Shein, a low cost fashion website. She paid just $47 for the dress and it looks stunning!

Kiara revealed how they pulled off a $500 wedding – including her $47 dress and $100 for Joel’s suit – in a now-viral TikTok video and I must say it looks like a beautiful event!
According to Kiara’s TikTok, they organized their wedding in two months. The wedding was held at a free venue, where they only had to pay for chairs and a decorative arch. The wedding cake and flowers were gifted to them by friends and family and their reception was held in a hotel lounge where guests paid for their own food and drinks. Because the couple only had around 30 or 40 guests in attendance, they didn’t need to purchase a public permit, helping to keep costs down, she said in the video.

“Our village is strong,” Kiara Brokenbrough told Fox 11. “People paid to fly out here to come to a wedding, and they knew if they wanted food and drinks, it’s available for purchase, and they knew that. I didn’t hear anyone complain.”
