It was a battle of the ages, a cinematic showdown for the books! Two cultural icons, each masters of their own domain, made history when the towering 7’2″ basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the late, lightning-fast 5’8″ martial arts extraordinaire Bruce Lee faced off in the unforgettable 1978 kung fu film, Game of Death.

For Bruce Lee fans, this film holds a special place as it was the last project he was working on. And for us in the Black community, it was one of the earliest Afro-Asian collaborations on film. It paved the way for future duos like Jet Li and DMX in Cradle 2 The Grave, and the iconic Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in Rush Hour.

That’s why we’re giving major props to adidas Originals for honoring both legends with the Jabbar Lo x Bruce Lee collection, inspired by that classic Billy Lo vs. Hakim showdown.

This collab blends Jabbar’s signature style with Lee’s iconic yellow motif, creating a collection that truly celebrates two kings. The bright suede upper features branding from both legends, including Abdul-Jabbar’s Skyhook logo in gold foil and Lee’s “kick” logo on the heel, also in gold foil. Lee’s signature appears on the lateral heel, and the insole artwork features both Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bruce Lee. The collaboration also includes a capsule set of graphic T-shirts ($40 USD each) inspired by the legendary Game of Death fight scene, available in black and white. The Jabbar Lo sneaker retails for $110 USD.

The Jabbar Lo x Bruce Lee collection dropped on August 30th at select adidas retailers like Shoe Palace and Extra Butter, with a wider global launch on September 13th. Shoe Palace hosted a three-day pop-up in Los Angeles starting August 29th.
