It’s a momentous day for Brandy, the R&B icon whose influence on vocal runs and Black television has been foundational. On March 30, 2026, Brandy was finally awarded her star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, cementing her legacy as an enduring blueprint for generations of Black artists and actresses.
The ceremony was a who’s who of Black excellence, with powerhouses Issa Rae and Babyface on hand to honor Brandy’s storied career. Rae, the creator and star of the critically-acclaimed HBO series Insecure, praised Brandy’s trailblazing role on the 90s sitcom Moesha, which centered the lived experiences of a young Black girl navigating life, love, and family.
Brandy’s Moesha was a landmark moment for representation on television, paving the way for a new era of diverse, culture-forward programming that would inspire countless young Black girls to dream big. The show’s impact is still felt today, with Issa Rae and other contemporary creators continuing Brandy’s legacy of elevating authentic Black narratives.
But Brandy’s influence extends far beyond the small screen. As one of the most influential vocalists in modern R&B, her signature runs and melismatic delivery have shaped the sound of the genre for generations. Artists from Beyoncé to H.E.R. have cited Brandy as a key inspiration, emulating her vocal agility and powerful emotional expression.
Babyface, the legendary songwriter and producer who collaborated extensively with Brandy, perhaps summed it up best: “Brandy is the blueprint. She’s the one that all the artists look to when it comes to vocal performances and interpretation.”
This long-overdue recognition is a testament to Brandy’s enduring impact on Black culture. Her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame cements her place as an icon, a visionary, and a true pioneer whose influence will continue to reverberate for years to come.
