Flex Alexander Reveals Why Michael Jackson Was ‘Unhappy’ & ‘Upset’ With ‘Man In The Mirror’ Movie; Also Claims He Was Denied His Own Makeup Artist Resulting In Infamous ‘Ashy’ White Look

Remember when Flex Alexander stepped into the iconic shoes of Michael Jackson for the 2004 TV movie ‘Man In The Mirror’? Well, he’s spilling the tea again, revealing why the King of Pop himself was so “unhappy” and “upset” with the film. Alexander also touched on his infamous “ashy” white look in the movie, claiming it was all because he wasn’t allowed to bring his own makeup artist.

During a recent sit-down with ‘The Art of Dialogue,’ Flex Alexander dove into the controversial and talked-about moments from ‘Man In The Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story.’ He made it clear that MJ’s disapproval wasn’t about Alexander’s acting chops or even just the makeup. Instead, the real issue stemmed from the producers’ decision to include certain allegations in the storyline.

Alexander originally thought his portrayal of MJ would be a big deal, on par with the new ‘Michael’ biopic dropping next year. However, things quickly went south when the production couldn’t secure the rights to Michael Jackson’s biggest hits. Talk about a major setback!

He then got into the nitty-gritty of his infamous “ashy” white makeup, which was meant to depict MJ’s vitiligo battle. Alexander confessed he wanted his own makeup artist, Murse Arsenal, but the production team denied his request. He described the airbrushing process, happening as early as 4:35 AM, as incredibly rushed and poorly executed. Alexander even admitted he looked “very ashy” and had to just “have fun with it” because there was nothing he could do. He couldn’t even watch the film back, calling it “pretty bad.”

Alexander explained that once he signed the contract, his hands were tied. He tried to suggest improvements during the makeup process, but the crew was set on their own methods. He confirmed Michael Jackson was indeed upset about the film, but not with Alexander’s performance. The legendary artist was reportedly frustrated that the movie kept dredging up past allegations, asking, “Why do we have to keep talking about this?”

The producers, Alexander noted, based their script around court documents, aiming not to paint MJ in a negative light. The film even ends with Alexander portraying Jackson acquitted. Still, MJ was “definitely not happy” about the constant rehashing of those topics. Alexander simply viewed himself as an actor trying to do his job in a project that, in his own words, “took a shot at it and it was a brick.”
