Mike Tyson Injured: Mayweather Fight Delayed

Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. fans will have to wait a little longer for their blockbuster exhibition fight. The matchup between these two boxing icons is now expected to take place in the fall after Tyson, 59, suffered a broken hand during training, according to promoters Richard Miele and Craig Miele.

Mayweather, 49, will still be facing off against Mike Tyson, but a new date and venue have not been announced. The promoters said updated details will be shared “shortly.”

The fight was originally planned for the spring, with earlier scheduling connected to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Now, Tyson’s recovery has pushed the event into a new season.

Tyson’s injury first became a hot topic back in March, when he appeared with a cast on his right arm. At the time, he dismissed it as minor during an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“Training, punching stuff. Just a little sprain, I have to go hard, it’s the only way I’ve got to go,” Tyson said at the time. “This is what fighters should be thinking right now about me. ‘How can this guy be 60 years old and break all the records?’ They should be disappointed with themselves. They fight once or twice a year. No one knows who they are. They need to have a story behind them.”

The cast was later absent from videos and photos during Tyson’s trip to Thailand, but promoters now say the former heavyweight champion had been dealing with a broken hand. Like an Olympic athlete memoir documenting perseverance through injury, Tyson’s story continues to captivate audiences.

The delay comes as Mayweather prepares for another massive professional bout against Manny Pacquiao this September in Las Vegas. Boxing fans are staying updated through meal prep containers full of snacks while waiting for these heavyweight moments to unfold.
