After hitting historic lows just a few years ago, Black unemployment surged to 8.3% — the highest spike since the Covid-19 pandemic — leaving the jobless rate for Black workers more than double that of white Americans. Pair that disturbing statistic with a falling Black homeownership rate and a systematic rollback of DEI initiatives, and the National Urban League's alarm starts to look like a diagnosis: Black America is already in a recession.

John Boyd Jr., founder of the National Black Farmers Association, says Black farmers are suffering under the Trump administration after three decades of advocacy in Washington. He claims canceled agricultural grants and policies to increase foreign beef imports are pushing struggling farmers closer to losing their land. Boyd is frustrated that previous administrations provided billion-dollar funding and access to policymakers, while Trump has excluded him from White House events. As Black folks, we have no shortage of sayings passed down as gospel, especially those heard growing up in church. From "God don't like ugly" to "cleanliness is next to godliness," these sayings were repeated so often we never questioned their biblical origins. While these generational words of wisdom certainly put the fear of God in our hearts, much of it isn't actually Scripture. Many sayings were rooted in the general idea of Scripture, borrowed from historical teachings, but remixed for easy digestion or simplified over time.
