With the news cycle continuing to look more and more abysmal for Black folks, it's more important than ever that people speak up and advocate for the issues that impact our community. That's especially true for Black celebrities who have a responsibility to use their large platforms to send a message to those who need to hear it.

Some of the biggest names in gospel music gathered in Charlotte, N.C., last night for the 41st Stellar Awards. Hosted by GRAMMY Award-winning artist Kirk Franklin, the awards celebrated the year's biggest songs and artists who have entertained and inspired fans around the world. Among the night's biggest winners were Lisa Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers, who won five awards, including Song of the Year and Quartet of the Year.

The Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival is well underway, with Black stars making their way to the island to catch the best of Black cinema, attend fascinating panels, and reconnect with friends during the final weeks of summer. From cinematographers and award-winning costume designers to filmmakers, athletes, and entertainers, the festival has attracted an impressive lineup of influential figures celebrating African American contributions to film and culture.
