Allen believes the problem is sometimes simpler than people assume: Black patients may not be rejecting clinical trials, they may never have been asked. Representation matters because researchers need diverse data to understand how investigational medicines work across different populations.

That's especially true for Black celebrities who have a responsibility to use their large platforms to send a message to those who need to hear it.
