Many of us are longing to return to the “golden days” where dating apps weren’t as prevalent, so we had to rely on organically meeting someone, while getting coffee, or at a grocery store, concert, or even through a friend. But for those interested in deleting the dating apps in hopes of a  fresh romantic start, where should they begin? We tapped Damona Hoffman, author of F the Fairy Tale, for some pointers.

Although she believes that dating apps are the most powerful tool in your dating toolbox, she notes that it should not be your only tool. “Dating apps are only a shortcut to introductions but once you move offline, online dating is just dating so it’s important to keep your offline dating skills sharp too,” she shares. Remember, finding love organically is about being open, intentional, and proactive. Real connections don’t happen in isolation, so step into the world with confidence and a willingness to connect.

Here are her tips for getting new matches into your orbit and inspo for being courageous enough to say “hi” to a handsome stranger:

1. Embrace Your Everyday Spaces

Love doesn’t just happen in some magical place, it can happen in the grocery store, at your favorite coffee shop, or even while walking your dog. Instead of zoning out on your phone, be open to small moments of connection. Smile, strike up conversations, and make yourself approachable.

2. Take Up a New Hobby

A hobby brings people together in structured, low-pressure ways. You’re not just sitting across from someone, trying to figure out what to say—you’re actively engaged in a shared activity. This makes it easier to start conversations and build rapport. Plus it expands your circle of connection.

3. Let Your Network Know You’re Looking

Don’t underestimate the power of your community. Tell friends, family, or even coworkers that you’re open to meeting someone special. People love playing matchmaker, and you never know who might have a friend, cousin, or neighbor who could be your perfect match. Just be specific about what you’re looking for. If you say “set me up with someone” you might get “some one” instead of “the one.”

4. Say Yes to Invitations

Even if you’re tempted to stay home in your cozy clothes, accept those invites to parties, weddings, or happy hours. I call this “Adopting an Attitude of Yes” in my book. These are prime opportunities to meet new people in natural settings. Plus, your openness to new experiences sends a signal to the universe (and potential partners) that you’re ready for love.

5. Take the Lead in Small Moments

If you feel a spark or notice someone interesting, don’t be afraid to take initiative (regardless of your gender — old-fashioned rules about who can initiate are sooo last year.) Use my P.S. World technique to start a conversation with anyone, anytime, anywhere. Make a “curiosity comment” about something about their Person (“Nice jacket!”) or the Space (“Wow look at that painting!”) or the World (“Did you hear the news?”)

Stephen A. Smith Regrets Voting for Kamala Harris, Believes He Was Misinformed

Stephen A. Smith voiced his frustrations with Vice President Kamala Harris and former Barack Obama during the 2024 election cycle. Smith, 57, sat down with Dave Rubin for his Blaze TV show, The Rubin Report, with the new episode premiering on Saturday (Jan. 11). The conversation covered the politicization of sports, the right wing’s silent majority, the “left wing’s hypocrisy,” and more.

As the conversation came to a close, Rubin and Smith began discussing the 2024 election, with the sports pundit taking the time to voice his frustrations with Harris’ campaign. In fact, the First Take host was so frustrated with the campaign that he implied that he was guilted into voting for the California-based politician over Donald Trump.

“When you hear people talking about practical, practical things, and then I saw folks on the left basically trying to guilt me into voting for you, you know, it bothered me,” he admitted. “I might have ended up voting for Kamala Harris because I didn’t like how Trump acts, but what I didn’t do was call him a racist. I didn’t call him a Nazi.”

“I knew Trump before he ran for president. We talked on the phone. We talk at basketball games or boxing events. I knew this man, and so some of the things that were being said about him I knew were not true, and I was saying, ‘Come on y’all, you got to do better than that.’”

While Smith voted for Harris, he admitted that he was “misinformed” about not voting for Donald Trump. In fact, the pundit asserted that after Barack Obama stated that misogyny was the reason Black men weren’t voting for VP Harris for president, Stephen A. almost changed his vote to Trump. Smith went on to say that Obama’s rhetoric “offended” him, found that he was being nonsensical, and asserted that the 44th president of the United States “can’t do that to [Black men].”

Doubling down, Stephen A. then claimed that while he acknowledges that racism does exist in the world, he couldn’t knock a white American for not caring about the race of their political candidate—especially if that American citizen is struggling to make ends meet. Smith opined that Democrats’ focus on identity politics has caused a lot of Americans to move to the right-leaning ideals of Republicans, with the 2024 election being a prime example.

About two decades later, Jim Jones is still gushing about his bae, Chrissy Lampkin. Over the years, the couple has been at the center of marriage debates, given his hesitation and her eagerness to be married. While they’ve yet to wed, he recently shared a valuable moment: their first meeting.

Jim Jones Recalls The First Time Chrissy Approached Him

Jim shared the throwback story while recently chatting on the ’90sBabyShow.’ The rapper, who was raised in Harlem, shared that Chrissy Lampkin is also from the area.

“I had a crush on Chrissy…Chrissy’s probably one of the flyest, baddest, dopest chicks from Harlem,” Jim said.

The first time he saw Lampkin was at a historic Harlem spot called the Mart 125, originally named the Harlem Flea Market. In 2023, Harlem World Magazine reported that Mart 125 was open between 1986 and 2002. The space served as an indoor market near the Apollo Theater. Jones said he had pulled up to the spot with Mase. At the time, Chrissy had a short haircut.

Fast-forward to 2004, Jim Jones and Chrissy Lampkin ran into each other at a Miami beach club. He claims that she “ran down on [him] and said some funny sh*t” to him.

“I was like, wow, this is crazy. In my mind, I was like, ‘Wow, I’m nervous.’ Like I’m trying to find my cool. At the moment I felt like all my cool was out the window and I feel like I’m the coolest individual in the world,” Jim shared in between flashing smiles.

At that point, the host pointed out that Lampkin still has that effect on Jones, given his blushing. Meanwhile, Chrissy hasn’t yet publicly reacted to the circulating interview clip.

Jim Previously Shut Down Rumors Of Marrying Another Woman

In early November, rumors surfaced online that Jim Jones had married ‘Basketball Wives’ star Brooke Bailey. At the time, he shut down the speculations by posting a video showing him holding a bottle of water while saying the world needs more. Seconds later, Chrissy Lampkin chimed in from the background. She said, “I’m just drinking my water and minding my business.” 

A few days later, Brooke Bailey explicitly denied having any romantic ties, especially marriage, to Jim Jones.

18 States Sue Trump Administration Over Birthright Citizenship Order
A coalition of Democratic-led states has filed a federal lawsuit challenging President Trump’s recent executive order aimed at restricting birthright citizenship.
The lawsuit, submitted on Tuesday, seeks to block the order, which opponents argue is unconstitutional.
Shortly after taking office on Monday, President Trump signed a series of immigration-related executive actions, including a directive instructing federal agencies to deny passports, citizenship certificates, and other legal documents to certain children born in the U.S.

The order specifically targets cases where parents are undocumented or lack permanent legal residency.
The legal challenge, filed in Massachusetts, argues that the order violates the 14th Amendment, which has long been interpreted to grant citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil.

Several major cities have also joined the lawsuit, reinforcing concerns that the executive action oversteps presidential authority.
“Birthright citizenship is a fundamental right embedded in the Constitution and a pillar of American democracy,
” said one state attorney general leading the lawsuit. “This order is not only unlawful but undermines the very principles of equality and justice that define our nation.”

The lawsuit calls for an immediate injunction to prevent enforcement while the case proceeds.
More than a dozen states, including some from both coasts and the Midwest, are backing the legal challenge.
Meanwhile, additional legal opposition emerged later Tuesday, as a separate group of states filed a similar lawsuit in Washington state.
Civil rights organizations, including the ACLU, have also launched legal efforts to block the order, setting up what is expected to be a significant court battle over immigration policy.
With multiple lawsuits now in motion, the legality of the executive order will likely be determined in the courts in the months ahead.

Drake Affiliate Top5 Arrested By Toronto Police On Firearm Charges

Drake’s close associate and Toronto rapper, Top5, has been arrested by the Toronto Police Service and is facing several weapons-related charges. According to an official news release from the police, the rapper, whose real name is Hassan Ali, was taken into custody on Friday, January 24.

Top5 has been charged with six separate offenses: Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device; Possession of a Weapon; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized; and Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition.

The rapper’s initial court appearance was scheduled for 10 A.M. on Saturday, January 25, though no details about the proceedings have been made available at this time.

This arrest follows warnings from industry insiders about Top5’s controversial actions. Earlier this month, Drake was publicly advised to distance himself from Top5. Despite this, the two were seen attending a Toronto Raptors game together on January 13, further drawing attention to their connection.

Top5 shared a video of himself and Drake walking to their seats during the Raptors’ victory over the Golden State Warriors. In the Instagram post, the 25-year-old rapper captioned the video: “Me & twin @champagnepapi.”

This appearance came shortly after Wack 100, a veteran music manager, issued a stern warning to Drake about his association with Top5. During an interview with No Jumper, Wack 100 claimed to possess incriminating evidence related to the Toronto rapper and advised Drake to cut ties with him.

“Drake needs to get away from Top5. He’s bad news,” Wack 100 said, holding up a USB drive during the interview. “This is how much respect I got for you, Drake. No troll, on Piru, you need to get away from that dude. This has been in existence for about 90 days, and I have made sure it hasn’t [gone] anywhere, personally. I think you know what I’m talking about.

“That dude, with his mouth and the things he says, it does not support your career. I’m telling you as a brother … get the fuck away from Top5, bro. Remember, I’m warning Drake, he’s gonna have you hemmed up, caught up and cuffed up.”

Wack added, “Dude is reckless with his mouth, he ties you to things, and he’s a dumbass.”

This recent arrest is not Top5’s first encounter with the law. Last September, he was released from jail after beating a first-degree murder charge stemming from the shooting death of 20-year-old college student Hashim Omar Hashi four years ago. Authorities believe Hashi may have been wrongly targeted in a gang-related shooting.

The case was dismissed after key pieces of evidence were ruled inadmissible. Following his release, it was revealed that Drake had contributed to the rapper’s legal fees. In a since-edited Instagram post, Top5 expressed gratitude, writing: “Shoutout big bro @champagnepapi for the Lawyer Fees & Gary Grill for being the best lawyer in Toronto #ALLAHUAKBAR.”

Top5’s legal troubles and public controversies continue to cast a shadow over his career and affiliations. For now, it remains to be seen how these charges will impact both his future and his high-profile connection to one of hip-hop’s biggest stars.

MSNBC commentator Joy Reid was not a fan of Reverend Lorenzo Sewell‘s benediction at Donald Trump‘s inauguration from Monday (Jan. 20).

Reid described Sewell’s remarks as “over the top” and “quite performative.”

“I’m not sure what the point was,” she noted of the prayer, which she referred to as a “speech.”

Sewell became a prominent MAGA figure after he hosted Trump at his Detroit-based 180 Church over the summer. His sentiment at the inauguration was notably pro-Trump and made multiple references to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have A Dream‘ speech. Coincidentally, the ceremony fell on the federal holiday that celebrates the late civil rights icon.

“We are grateful that you [God] are the one that have called [Trump] for such a time as this, that America would begin to dream again,” Sewell said. He added his hope that Americans can “live in a nation where we will not be judged by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character.” He also referred to Trump’s assassination attempt as the “millimeter miracle.”

Sewell’s prayer was also criticized across social media with one calling it a “minstrel show.”

“Wow, didn’t expect the presidential inauguration to end with a minstrel show. Lorenzo Sewell is an embarrassment to himself, his family, and our nation,” one person tweeted, adding, “Lorenzo Sewell chose #MLKDay to mock Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on worldwide television at the close of a presidential inauguration. Not sure I’ve seen a more shameful display, ever.”

Sewell told MSNBC back in June that he didn’t align with either political party, but told Fox News a few weeks ago that “we do not believe that every Democrat is a demon, but we do believe that the Democratic platform is demonic.”

Dr. Bernice King also spoke out on Inauguration Day to point out the contrast between her father’s dreams and Trump’s vision. “For some, today’s inauguration represents the best of time: Make America great again. And for others, it highlights the worst of times: Set America back again,” she expressed.

Adding, “For some, today’s King holiday represents a day to champion freedom, justice and democracy. For others, it’s a day to decry DEI, disavow a legacy of peace, love and justice and distort the meaning of King’s words, but regardless of how this day shows up for you, we must remember the mission and be in pursuit of it.”

Diddy Files $50 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Grand Jury Witness, His Lawyer, and News Nation.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Courtney Burgess, attorney Ariel Mitchell, and NewsNation, accusing them of spreading false allegations that could jeopardize his right to a fair trial. The lawsuit, filed in New York, claims that damaging and fabricated claims were made, including allegations of Diddy appearing in videos assaulting intoxicated celebrities and minors.

“These defendants have willfully fabricated and disseminated outrageous lies with reckless disregard for the truth,” said Diddy’s lawyer, Erica Wolff, in a statement.

Burgess, a self-proclaimed music industry veteran, allegedly claimed to possess illicit tapes of Diddy and a memoir from Kim Porter, Diddy’s late partner. The lawsuit also names Mitchell and NewsNation for airing these allegations during a September 2024 interview, where Mitchell suggested Diddy’s involvement in “pornographic” videos with minors.

Diddy argues that the false claims have the potential to poison the jury pool in his upcoming trial, undermining his right to due process. He is seeking $50 million in damages and further legal relief to counter the impact of these allegations. The case adds another layer of controversy to the music mogul’s already high-profile legal battles.
