The picture feature ‘RHOP’ castmates Stacey Rusch, Wendy Osefo, Mia Thornton,  Gizelle Bryant, Ashely Darby, and Keiarna Stewart. Well, it turns out Karen Huger is taking some time to focus on herself, according to her manager, Ryan Tresdale. In a statement to PEOPLE, he recently explained her absence, revealing she’s decided to enter rehab.

“Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program, so was unable to attend the reunion taping today,” Tresdale said in the statement.

He also shared that he and her team fully support her decision, as it’s something she wanted.

“She was fully supported in this choice. We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey and are proud of her for taking such a significant step forward in her personal growth,” Tresdale added.

Karen Huger was pulled over in March 2024 by Montgomery Police. In a statement, Karen revealed that she had met a friend for dinner at the time, which led to an emotional conversation. On her way home, she became overwhelmed and started crying. When she saw an oncoming car, she swerved to avoid a head-on collision but ended up hitting the divider and then a tree. She suffered a few bruises but was thankful to be alive.

Officials later charged the reality star with driving while impaired and under the influence of alcohol. PEOPLE also noted additional charges such as “negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life, and person, recklessly driving a vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for the safety of persons and property.”

Although Karen wasn’t injured during the incident, she was still convicted on five out of the six charges, with DUI being the most significant, according to Fox5DC.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, Judge Richard Bloom confirmed Megan Thee Stallion’s restraining order against Tory Lanez. The Houston rapper’s request for the order described Lanez as a “violent and dangerous individual” with a pattern of behavior that highlights the need for the civil harassment order to protect her safety and well-being, according to Variety.

Reporter Meghann Cuniff shared live details about the order and Megan’s words during a video call in the Los Angeles courtroom on X (formerly Twitter). Cuniff explained that the Houston rapper appeared emotional during the call and expressed fear about what might happen once Lanez is released.

“The court does believe that the facts in this matter show both unlawful violence, a threat of violence … and a willful course of conduct that seriously harasses the petitioner and serves no legitimate purpose. I’m signing the order at this time,” Judge Bloom says,” Cuniff shared via X.

Additionally, Cuniff revealed that Tory won’t be eligible for parole until September 2029 as he is serving a 10-year sentence. The restraining order will remain in effect until January 9, 2030.

Tory Lanez Lawyer Argues Against Megan’s Protection Order As She Outlines Its Necessity

Before the judge granted Megan the restraining order, Tory Lanez’s lawyer, Michael Hayden, argued against it. Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon also shared on X that Hayden argued the restraining order. Hayden noted that it would be unfair, and Lanez has no intention of reaching out to Megan.

However, Nancy Dillon also reported that Megan told the court she rarely leaves her house because she feels constantly nervous and frustrated by people yelling “Free Tory” at her.

The Los Angeles Police Department has apprehended an arson suspect they believed allegedly sparked the Kenneth Fire. KTLA reports that the Los Angeles police responded to claims of an individual trying to light a fire in the Woodland Hills, California area on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Details On The Kenneth Fire Near Woodland Hills

Per KTLA, the Kenneth Fire started around 2:30 p.m. in dry brush within the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space, just north of the 101 Freeway. By 9 p.m., the fire spread to 1,000 acres, with firefighters containing 35% of it.

According to The Hill, LAPD Senior Lead Officer Charles Dinse stated that investigators are treating the incident as a crime. Dinse also mentioned that investigators have not determined the individual’s motive for starting the fire, which has already burned 900 miles in the Golden State. Additionally, Dinse noted that the fire is a possible “case of arson.”

Authorities are actively conducting an arson investigation but have not shared additional details about the suspect. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman told NewsNation in an interview, per The Hill, that the act could lead to a homicide charge, potentially carrying a life sentence.

“Justice will be swift. It will be firm, and the maximum punishment will be sought,” Hochman said.

Furthermore, Hochman emphasized their commitment to delivering justice for the crime and their determination to send a clear warning through their actions.

“Our goal is to send this warning. Whether it’s looting, these internet scams, robbery or future arsons. We want to bring justice, and we will,” Hochman explained.

Alvera Meuti, an 84-year-old woman, passed away after reportedly being left outside of a nursing home on Christmas Eve.

Here’s What Happened To Alvera Meuti

According to News 5 Cleveland, Meuti was discovered deceased outside of the Avenue at Warrensville Care & Rehabilitation Center around 7:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve. Per Warrensville Heights police, the last time Meuti was allegedly seen by staff at the facility was at 8:40 p.m. on December 23.

The nurse who last saw Meuti reportedly told police the 84-year-old “seemed normal and was talking while sitting in her wheelchair.”

Subsequently, a second was then reportedly assigned to Meuti. However, around 9:30 p.m., the nurse discovered the 84-year-old was “not in her room.”

Per the outlet, the second nurse reportedly assumed Meuti had gone for a visit with her brother. However, the facility’s visitor log did not show any records of Meuti’s brother picking her up. Furthermore, the second nurse allegedly did not inform the fellow staff of the 84-year-old’s absence.

More Details On The 84-Year-Old Woman Reportedly Left Outside Her Nursing Home

Around 12:30 a.m., the nurse allegedly Meuti’s brother multiple times. However, he did not answer.

“…she is a new nurse… and was not sure what to do after that,” the police report asserts, per News 5 Cleveland.

Around 6:30 a.m., the nurse finally informed a fellow staff member of Meuti being missing. Subsequently, a “code purple” was issued, a sweep was conducted around the building, and police were informed. Once an officer arrived at 7:30 a.m., nurses reportedly discovered Meuti outside of the facility “laying on her back.”

Per the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the 84-year-old’s cause of death has been listed as “Environmental exposure with hypothermia.” Police are reportedly investigating Meuti’s death and how she ended up outside of the facility despite needing assistance to walk.

HR Execs Reflect On New Ways To Conduct Performance Reviews

How did your performance review go this year?

A number of workplace human resource departments are re-evaluating how employee performance reviews are done as sometimes they don’t go according to plan, Fortune reports.

Annual performance reviews are meetings where employees reflect on their successes and areas for improvement. They also prompt potential promotions or raises. However, Dan Kaplan, senior CHRO client partner for consulting firm Korn Ferry, feels they are an “uncomfortable process.”

“No one really likes to rank themselves and write about their own successes and shortcomings. You’re doing it once a year, you’re trying to remember what you did, because this is your one chance to try and to get a bonus,” Kaplan told Fortune. “It’s a very clunky, cumbersome, time-consuming, uncomfortable process.”

Reviews aren’t popular among supervisors and managers either. Some view them as an abusive tactic to eliminate employees for outside reasons rather than taking the appropriate steps to terminate them. They are also seen as opportunities for employees to carry on bad work habits if managers wait too long to tell them what isn’t working.

Race and gender bias also take part in the performance reviews, partially for Black and brown employees in the quality of feedback. Data from a report from HR Brew found less than 20% of Black and Hispanic workers receive high-quality input in comparison to white and Asian men. Only half revealed they’ve been called intelligent. More than 60% of Black workers are described as emotional. Women seem to get the short end of the stick.

Feedback for women tend to receive low-quality feedback based on their personality. Fifty-six percent of women said they’ve been labeled as unlikeable in their performance reviews, while 78% have been called emotional.

“High-performing women get exactly as much personality feedback as their lower-performing peers,” the report said.

The listed reasons support why more companies lean into continuous feedback, labeled as more important for remote or hybrid teams. Consistent check-ins allow managers to build a rapport with staffers along with the opportunity to change unattainable patterns. Susan Stehlik, professor of management communication at New York University Stern, said feedback works better when trying to obtain trust. “And you start building real team bonding,” which creates a “player-coach model,” she told Fortune.

Rocki Howard, founder and CEO of DE&I consulting firm Diversiology, encourages organizations to mitigate bias by showing managers how to give unbiased and, more importantly, actionable feedback as it impacts future performance, productivity, and engagement.

“This is problematic because lack of actionable feedback significantly creates less opportunity to learn and improve, which over time creates less opportunity for greater pay and promotional opportunities,” Howard added.
