Word on the street is that Akon, our “Locked Up” crooner, had a brief stint behind bars last week. DeKalb County jail records show that Aliaune Thiam, a.k.a. the 52-year-old artist, was arrested by Chamblee Police on November 7.
Apparently, the “Smack That” hitmaker was picked up on a warrant from Roswell, though details are still hush-hush.
But don’t stress! It seems like his stay was super short. Records show Akon was released just six hours after booking. We’re waiting on the official word from his team, but the internet is already cracking jokes about the irony of the “Locked Up” singer getting, well, locked up. We’ve all been there.
Akon has been a major voice since the early 2000s R&B and hip-hop explosion. “Lonely,” “I Wanna Love You,” and the classic “Locked Up”—these are the anthems that got us through.
These days, the five-time Grammy nominee is focused on philanthropy and uplifting communities in Africa. From solar-powered cities to youth programs, Akon is putting his influence to good use, and we love to see it.
Hopefully, this headline is just a minor bump in the road. This brother is doing real good out here; let’s hope this doesn’t slow his roll.
